Role Introduction

Established in 1992, Applegreen is a leading convenience roadside retailer in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the US in both large-scale Motorway Service Areas and Travel Plazas, as well as smaller petrol stations. The business has grown to over €3BN in annual revenue, operating 600 Motorway Service Plazas and forecourt sites internationally and employing over 16,000 people.

Applegreen is in a rapid growth phase and to support this ambitious growth, we are seeking to onboard a Group Digital Developer, to join our new team.

We’re looking for a hands-on expert to lead the management of our enterprise content platforms as part of a major digital transformation programme. This role is central to how we build, manage, and optimise digital content across our websites and marketing communication. This role will act as the platform business lead, overseeing content provisioning, technical integrations, and performance monitoring to deliver a best-in-class digital experience. This role will form part of the Group Commercial team and reports to the Group Head of Digital.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Transformation Support

  • Act as the business subject matter expert and owner of the enterprise CMS (headless content platform) within the digital transformation programme.
  • Define and deliver the CMS strategy and roadmap to meet evolving business and customer needs, ensuring alignment with long-term digital objectives.
  • Collaborate with development agencies and internal IT teams to manage technical integrations, template development, and seamless content deployment.
  • Provide consultancy to cross-functional teams on scaling content operations and enhancing digital experience maturity.
  • Support the rollout of new CMS features and workflows, including training and documentation to drive adoption across group and regional teams.

Content Management & Support

  • Lead day-to-day content operations, including building and updating web pages, uploading assets, and maintaining content across digital platforms.

· Build and manage marketing emails using a customer engagement platform ensuring alignment with brand and marketing objectives.

  • Establish and manage efficient publishing workflows, ensuring timely and accurate content delivery.
  • Ensure all content meets brand, quality, accessibility (WCAG), and performance standards.
  • Monitor CMS performance (e.g. uptime, speed, delivery) and coordinate with IT and agency partners to resolve issues promptly.

Analytics & Optimisation

  • Manage digital performance reporting through KPI dashboards and tools such as Google Analytics.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data accuracy and effective tracking implementation.
  • Analyse content and website performance to identify trends, user behaviours, and areas for optimisation.
  • Use insights to refine content strategy and enhance the overall digital customer experience.

Digital Asset Management (DAM)

  • Oversee governance of the DAM system, maintaining taxonomy, metadata, access controls, and integration with the CMS and customer engagement platform.
  • Manage the full asset lifecycle, from ingestion and approval to linking assets with CMS components and campaign content.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Creative teams to ensure DAM workflows support scalable, high-quality content production and localisation across regions.
