Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) is Ireland’s national public‑service media organisation. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost‑effective, free‑to‑air services across television, radio and digital platforms to audiences in Ireland and internationally. As the country’s largest media organisation and the largest producer and commissioner of original programming and journalism, RTÉ has a broad public‑service remit to serve all audiences with a wide breadth of high‑quality content.

RTÉ is currently delivering an ambitious five‑year transformation programme – New Direction. This programme is focused on reshaping how the organisation operates, modernising production and support models, strengthening governance and restoring long‑term sustainability, while continuing to deliver compelling content that resonates with audiences.

As part of RTÉ’s transformation programme, the organisation is seeking to appoint a Director of Production and Media Services, a key operational leadership role at the heart of delivering change across Production and Media Services.

The Role

Reporting to the Director General and attending Leadership Team meetings, the Director of Production and Media Services will:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a core pillar of RTÉ’s transformation, providing strategic oversight of production and media services in a large, unionised and highly interdependent environment.

  • Setting clear direction and performance frameworks, enabling strong senior managers to deliver day‑to‑day operational excellence.

  • Operating confidently within complex industrial relations structures, working constructively with the Unions to support sustainable change.

  • Acting as a senior operational voice at executive level, contributing to strategy and transformation while aligning services to content and audience needs.

The Individual

RTÉ welcome applications from candidates who demonstrate:

  • Senior‑level operational leadership experience within a large, complex and unionised organisation.

  • Proven experience leading through matrix structures and managing interdependencies across complex organisational systems.

  • A strong track record of delivering sustained transformation and change, particularly where credibility, fairness and engagement are critical to success.

  • High emotional intelligence, with the ability to get the best from experienced, professional teams.

  • The judgement, presence and confidence to operate as a strong and credible operational voice at executive level.

  • Demonstrable excellence in negotiation and influencing, with the credibility and judgement to build consensus and progress change across complex, unionised and multi‑stakeholder environments.

  • Direct media experience is welcome but not essential.

This role is being offered on three-year fixed term appointment, and the salary range is €150,000 to €160,000 gross per annum.
