Disability Support Officer
Pay Scale: £18 Per Hour
Job Description: • Provide specialist support, tailored to suit the young person’s needs, as agreed with the DSS programme manager. • Prepare in advance of the support session and have all necessary resources for the session. • Provide weekly and monthly updates to the DSS Programme Manager on the young person’s progress through the completion of engagement records. • To liaise with all stakeholders in the strictest confidence regarding the health and wellbeing of learners. • Engage with local external agencies for specialist support. • To support learners with employability skills including CV writing, job/placement searching and interview techniques. • Assist tutors to deliver Vocational skills and essential skills qualifications. Working with local employers to secure training placements for participants. • Attend and provide input to standardisation meetings. • To perform such other tasks deemed necessary by management, to ensure the effective support to the learner. • To maintain effective information management, administrative and reporting systems, ensuring all quality processes are followed. • Continuous improvement and development of added value services/activities, including sharing best practice. • Adhering to all Health & Safety and Safeguarding procedures. • To be aware of and adhere to all of Usel’s Policies and Procedures.
Person Specification Essential: • At least 6 months experience providing practical support. This may have been as a result of paid employment or volunteer work. • Ability to establish positive relationships with people with disabilities and their family/carers.
• An ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. To complete compulsory paperwork regarding the services and hours worked. • Proficient in the use of all Microsoft office products within a work environment.
Desirable: • Experience of working with people with learning difficulties, disabilities and/or people who have additional needs. • Training would be desirable in the following areas Safeguarding, Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia or Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). Knowledge of the Essential Skills Numeracy, Literacy and ICT qualifications from entry level-level 2.
