Details of Service

The specialist palliative care (SPC) service for Kildare and West Wicklow is based in St. Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh in Co. Kildare. This purposely re-designed HSE unit was a collaboration of the HSE and the Friends of St. Brigid’s Hospice. i It consists of a 13 bedded SPC inpatient unit This is a consultant led interdisciplinary, vibrant and enthusiastic service incorporating medical, nursing, health care assistants, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, administrative and catering staff.

There is also a dynamic community palliative care consultant led team which primarily is delivered by front facing community palliative care clinical nurse specialists to persons with SPC needs living at home or in residential care. This is done in collaboration with other hospital palliative care and other clinical teams, general practitioners, public health nursing, primary care teams and nursing homes.
