Child & Young Person Mental Health Unit at New Children’s Hospital
The NPDC will be required to travel and attend routine meetings in Dublin (Herberton Offices, Rialto / La Touche House, IFSC, Ballyfermot) and other locations as required.
Duration of Post
There is currently a 12 month Specified Purpose Contract available – The post holder will be a member of the CYPMH Commissioning Team during the period up to the opening of the New Children’s Hospital. This team is currently led by a Clinical Project Lead and a Clinical Director and wider Leadership team will be stood up in the coming months.
·It is planned that this Commissioning team may transition into the managerial and clinical MDT structures to open the new services in the Child and Young Person Mental Health Unit, in the New Children’s Hospital (NCH).
Details of Service
As part of the new children’s hospital, there will be a new 20 bed Child and Young Person Mental Health (CYPMH) inpatient unit, to be staffed and delivered by Mental Health services within the hospital. This aligns with National Policy (VfC, MOC Paediatrics) and is a key Government, Department of Health and HSE project.
The 20 bedded unit will function as two distinct pods catering for Acute/Emergency and Eating Disorder presentations, each operating as a member of a national network of such units located in Dublin, Galway, and Cork. The unit will have a regional and national remit for the treatment of the most intensive presentations in line with the CAMHS Operational Guideline.
The objective of the service is to provide a cost-effective, evidence based, and outcomes focused inpatient service to improve the mental health of young people who are admitted with severe and/or complex mental health conditions.
The service will;
· Provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the assessment, care and treatment undertaken to meet the mental health, physical, educational/occupational, social and spiritual needs of the young person.
· Provide treatment within a safe, effective, age appropriate and therapeutic environment
· Involve young people in actively planning and participating in their care wherever possible and ensure effective communication and involvement of parents/ carers as appropriate
· Aim to facilitate early, safe and sustainable discharge planning and support so as to ensure that young people spend the least amount of time in the inpatient unit
· Collect and use feedback from young people using the service and parents/carers in the monitoring of service quality and in service development
The successful candidate for this role will be a critical member of the project team, leading the design and delivery of technical and operational requirements to meet the needs of the Child and Young Person Mental Health Unit.
