Details of Service:
The Social Inclusion Service under the Primary Care Directorate works towards securing equality of access to health and social care services for people on the margins of society. It is focused on specific groups that experience disadvantage, including health inequalities.
Marginalised communities and groups are supported to achieve health and wellbeing on a par with the general population and to access the health and social care services they need; empowered to voice their health needs and have a say in how these are responded to; and enabled to exercise their rights to health and health and social care services.
The five core values that motivate the work of Social Inclusion are: Dignity, Voice, Inclusion, Social Justice and Integrity.
A range of services are provided to support people in the following vulnerable groups:
- Homeless
- Addiction
- International Protection Applicants and Benefits Of Temporary Protection (Ukrainians)
- Traveller & Roma Communities
- Victims of Domestic Sexual and Gender Based Violence
- LGBTQI+
An inclusive health approach incorporating the Social Determinants of Health is a key focus of the Service helping us to prioritise making health and social care services readily available and accessible, recognising the compounded challenges these groups face, such as geographical, economic, and cultural barriers.
In line with the Slaintecare Implementation Strategy (2018) the Social Inclusion Unit is working towards creating a sustainable, equitable and cost effective system that can transform the health and wellbeing of marginalised groups who access our services.
Service priorities are detailed in the HSE National Service Plan.
