Electrical Construction Manager

Description

As part of the growing Substation Electrical Team here at TLI Group, we are seeking an Electrical Construction Manager to join the team to work on recently awarded works associated with a number of Substation Electrical projects.

This is a hybrid role – home/office working with site visits as required on a project basis.

The role is ideally suited to an electrical supervisor with MV / HV experience who is keen to further their career.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for the safe delivery of the TLI Group Substations Build strategy in line with the company mission, vision, and values.

Operational Responsibilities
  • Ensure client orders are managed, prioritised, and actioned efficiently

  • Oversee allocation of resources and liaise with managers to expedite works as needed

  • Set accurate client expectations for orders and turnaround times, maintaining excellent communication

  • Monitor crew and sub-contractor allocations, including leave, absence, and training

  • Manage overheads/order costings to ensure financial viability

  • Focus on continuous improvement with attention to lessons learned

  • Performance management of crews and the wider Construction team

Crew Management Responsibilities
  • Mentor, lead, coach, and develop direct teams

  • Manage sub-contractor and direct crews for continual improvement

  • Oversee sickness reporting, behaviour, holiday tracking, and absence management

  • Ensure crews have approved permits to work on relevant infrastructure

  • Track resource allocation, hours worked, and materials to support project management

  • Carry out performance appraisals for all direct reports

  • Investigate and report accidents and incidents in a timely manner

  • Plan and resource delegated work to meet client specs, legislation, safety, and environmental standards

Quality Management Responsibilities
  • Complete quality audits and submit forms to the Quality, Environmental & Customer Complaints Coordinator

  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Create job aids outlining minimum work requirements and site materials

  • Identify recurring site issues to improve project processes

  • Manage client KPIs, generate reports, and ensure targets are consistently met or exceeded

General Responsibilities
  • Implement the TLI Safety Charter and Life Saving Rules

  • Apply the Quality and Environmental Project Plan

  • Demonstrate active listening with customers and internal teams

  • Show personal accountability and results-oriented behaviour

Qualifications & SkillsQualifications
  • Recognised academic training (Degree or Trade Qualifications)

  • Electrical trade background with a desire to further your career

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of PSDP / PSCS

  • Previous QA/QC experience with high work standards

  • Demonstrated success in the utilities sector

  • Experience in the role of Document Controller

  • Proficient in MS Project

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project

Preferable:

  • Over 5 years’ experience managing substation electrical installations from MV–110 kV

  • Over 5 years’ experience in a utility environment

  • Knowledge of HV Safety Rules

  • Experience in people and line leadership

  • Developed client-facing skills with a client-oriented approach

  • Commercial awareness

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and planning skills
