Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to deliver and facilitate all aspects of the Phase 2 Standards-Based Electrical Apprenticeship programme to prescribed national standards and in accordance with the approved curriculum and syllabus. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality apprenticeship training, supporting learners in developing the knowledge, skills and competencies required to progress in their apprenticeship and future careers.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, employers and other stakeholders, the Electrical Instructor will foster a positive and effective learning environment that promotes learner engagement, achievement and professional development. The role supports the organisation’s commitment to excellence in education and training, continuous improvement, and the provision of industry-relevant programmes that meet the evolving needs of apprentices, employers and the wider sector.

This position will contribute to the effective delivery of apprenticeship training through the planning, coordination and implementation of key instructional, assessment and administrative responsibilities, as outlined below.

Key Responsibilities

The Electrical Instructor plays a vital role in the delivery of the Standards-Based Apprenticeship programme and in supporting apprentices to develop the skills, knowledge and competencies required for their trade. Working collaboratively with colleagues and employers, the successful candidate will deliver training, assessment and learner support activities while ensuring compliance with programme requirements, quality standards and health and safety obligations.

Training Delivery and Learner Support

▪ Deliver all aspects of Phase 2 of the Standards-Based Electrical Apprenticeship programme in accordance with the approved curriculum, syllabus and prescribed standards.

▪ Provide instruction in practical skills, related knowledge, personal skills and health and safety requirements relevant to the programme.

▪ Develop and maintain lesson plans, learning materials, course notes and other training resources to support effective learning.

▪ Adapt training delivery to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities, learning styles and experience levels.

▪ Provide additional support and instruction to apprentices where required to facilitate successful programme completion.

Assessment and Quality Assurance

▪ Schedule, administer, assess and record learner assessments in accordance with programme requirements and established assessment procedures.

▪ Conduct repeat assessments and associated learner support activities in line with prescribed policies and procedures.

▪ Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support continuous development and achievement.

▪ Maintain accurate learner records and programme documentation in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements.

Learner Management and Supervision

▪ Supervise apprentices throughout the training programme, ensuring adherence to standards of attendance, punctuality, behaviour and engagement.

▪ Foster a positive, inclusive and professional learning environment that supports learner success and wellbeing.

▪ Prepare and provide learner progress reports and other relevant information to employers and stakeholders as required.

Workshop, Equipment and Health & Safety Management

▪ Maintain a safe, organised and effective workshop and training environment.

▪ Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and quality standards and promote safe working practices at all times.

▪ Ensure the security, appropriate use and maintenance of tools, equipment, machinery and materials within the training area.

▪ Monitor and coordinate equipment maintenance in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and organisational procedures.

Resource Planning and Administration

▪ Plan and coordinate the timely availability of course materials, consumables, tools and equipment required for programme delivery.

▪ Raise purchase requests and assist in the procurement of training materials and non-capital equipment as required.

▪ Ensure training resources are utilised in an efficient, economical and cost-effective manner.

▪ Utilise appropriate technologies and digital tools to enhance training delivery, assessment and administration.

Professional Responsibilities

▪ Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to maintain and enhance technical and instructional competence.

▪ Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the training centre and apprenticeship programme.

Essential Requirements

The following outlines the essential qualifications, skills, and competencies required for candidates applying for the Electrical Instructor position. ▪ Advanced Certificate Craft/National Craft Certificate in relevant Trade

▪ Appropriate Practical and Theoretical Qualifications relevant to the trade discipline.

▪ Minimum of three years relevant post-qualification industry experience

▪ A knowledge of the Standards Based Apprenticeship system.

▪ Knowledge of modern training delivery methods, learning approaches and qualifications.

▪ Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation and best practice within the industry.

▪ Proven record of achievement in a relevant professional environment.

▪ Capable of assessing learners' progress and providing timely, constructive feedback.

▪ Ability to deliver training modules to learners with a wide range of abilities, learning styles and experience levels.

▪ Excellent attention to detail with good organisational skills and the ability to organise and maintain an orderly workshop and learning environment

▪ Ability to organise and maintain a safe, orderly and effective workshop and learning environment.

▪ Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively in a manner that motivates and engages learners.

▪ Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

Desirable Requirements

▪ Knowledge of modern training and assessment methodologies.

▪ Good understanding of ETB and Training Services activities, aims and objectives.

▪ Previous supervisory, mentoring or instructional experience.

▪ Experience in programme planning, delivery and assessment.

▪ Strong industrial and/or commercial experience beyond the minimum industry requirement.

▪ Experience with administrative processes such as estimating, ordering materials and quality systems.
