Environmental Health & Safety Officer (Permanent/Full-Time)

Clerical Grade VII

This is a key management post with responsibility and accountability for the operational provision of an effective, environmental and safety, health, and welfare programme to meet the needs of the person served, staff and stakeholders and the strategic development of this programme to meet changing organisational needs.

The proper performance of these duties will require a high degree of liaison and communication with Managers and Staff throughout the hospital in the course of their normal duties and responsibilities. The Environmental Health & Safety Officer will also have extensive communication with agencies external to the organisation.

Qualifications

The candidate must, on the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office, possess:

Essential

  • Minimum 3rd level diploma in Occupational Safety, Health & Welfare
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in health and safety management

Desirable

  • Third level qualification in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or other technical qualification
  • Knowledge of HACCP Standards
  • Knowledge of the HIQA Safer Better Healthcare Standards
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and/or familiarity with hospital Accreditation/Quality systems
  • Familiar with hospital work environment and culture
  • Experience in managing environmental and household services in a comparable environment.
  • Familiar with Hygiene Assessment Process
  • Previous experience in healthcare industry
