Expression Of Interest: NSS Deputy Radiography Services Manager
This campaign is confined to staff who are currently employed as a Senior Radiographer in BreastCheck Merrion Unit, National Screening Service
Purpose of the Post - To deliver a quality patient focused Mammography service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities -
To perform the duties set out hereunder in the Screening Unit to which assigned.
To carry out his/her duties under the day-to-day supervision of the Radiography Service Manager.
Clinical Operations
• Undertake, as team leader, primary responsibility for the day-to-day Mammography service and the effective utilisation of all resources allocated.
• Supervise the smooth day-to-day running of the service and promote modern standards of clinical care within the unit.
• Be accountable for the quality of the service provided, including customer service and technical aspects.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, protocols and guidelines to international best practice and standards.
• Be proactively involved in review and further development of SOPs, Safety and Risk Management issues and Radiation Safety.
• Ensure that all equipment is operated safely, and that safe work practice is adhered to.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment service, maintenance, malfunction, downtime and performance, as required, and co-ordinate preventative maintenance schedules in accordance with clinical demand.
• Contribute to the preparation of plans for the service and new developments – monitor and report on their implementation. Implement and maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with hospital standards.
• Ensure that all screening of client’s data including all images and associated documents are archived accurately and in a timely manner to comply with local procedures.
• Maintain own clinical skills to a high standard and best practice and maintain up to date knowledge on new developments including regular attendance at multidisciplinary clinical meetings, triple assessment clinics and commit to continuous professional development.
• Participate in clinical audit.
• Demonstrate flexibility and be prepared to facilitate urgent cases when necessary. This may mean working through break times or staying late at the end of a duty.
• Contribute to and participate in quality initiatives within the department.
• Ensure that Mammographers in the Breast Screening Unit adhere to BreastCheck Quality Assurance guidelines and HIQA guidelines.
• Promote and assist regular review of images, especially on an individual level.
• Produce consistently high-quality mammography images consistent with optimal client care and safety and working within established guidelines.
• Minimise the radiation dose to each client. Adhere to the Ionising Radiation Regulations and ensure doses “as low as reasonably achievable” (ALARA).
• Ensure that Mammographers as members of the BreastCheck Unit, attend Multi-Discipline Meetings.
• Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
• Promote a culture that values diversity and respect.
Customer Care
• Respect and due care for each client.
• Provide full explanation of the procedure and informed signed consent.
• Recognition and respect for withdrawal of consent to proceed.
• Record appropriate clinical and other details of the examination, including use of the IT system.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and be professional at all times.
Finance
• Manage use of consumables efficiently.
Management
• Assist the Radiography Service Manager in providing leadership in the development and delivery of the service.
• Assume leadership in the absence of Radiography Service Manager. Keep Radiography Service Manager appraised of all developments in the clinical area.
• Participate, as required, in human resource planning, recruitment and selection of staff.
• Liaise with the Radiography Service Manager on human resource issues, as appropriate.
• Support the Radiography Service Manager in the implementation of initiatives aimed at on-going service development and improvement.
• Contribute to the induction programme of all new members of staff.
• Assess the work performance of staff assigned to the Screening Unit.
• Encourage a shared sense of commitment amongst staff to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
• Facilitate communication e.g., on changes in practice, new techniques or programme results.
• Liaise with Radiography Service Manager on the rotation of staff through the department to ensure an adequate number of trained staff to provide the service.
• Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
• Foster teamwork within the Breast Imaging Department.
• Ensure that the “Dignity at Work” policy is understood and promoted in the Unit.
• Respect and due care for colleagues.
• To adhere to all departmental policies including the Sick Leave Policy and Dress Code.
• Engage in the HSE performance achievement process in conjunction with your Line Manager and staff as appropriate.
Quality Assurance/Risk Management
• Promote and maintain a safe environment for staff and patients. Assist in the development and implementation of Risk Management and Health and Safety strategies in association with appropriate personnel.
• Commitment and active involvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Control protocols of BreastCheck, including daily and weekly tests, trouble shooting and taking appropriate remedial action.
• Liaise with the Physicist and QA Radiographer on all matters of Quality Assurance and radiographic Quality Control.
• Investigate and take appropriate action in accordance with BreastCheck policy in relation to complaints, accidents, and incidents.
• Bring complaints, accidents, or incidents to the attention of the Radiography Service Manager.
• Ensure that all BreastCheck policies and relevant legislation on radiation safety is understood by staff and complied with.
• Ensure all BreastCheck policies on infection control, health and safety are understood by staff and complied with.
• Contribute to Risk Assessment of the Unit and contribute to the departmental safety statement.
• Ensure that BreastCheck policy on Hygiene standards are understood by staff and monitor compliance with these standards.
• Maintain the quality assurance programme for all Breast Imaging equipment.
• Adequately identifies, assesses, manages and monitors risk within their area of responsibility.
• Have a working knowledge of HIQA Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene standards etc.
• Ensure that HIQA standards are understood by staff. Ensure compliance with the standards and monitor compliance with these standards.
• Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.
