Duration: 9 Months
A Fellowship in Obesity Medicine provides valuable subspecialist training opportunities to future leaders of healthcare delivery, and SCH/SVUH is uniquely placed to provide this training. SCH/SVUH Centre for Obesity Management (COM) is an accredited European Association for Study of Obesity Collaborating Centre for Obesity Management (EASO COM), and national referral centre for complex obesity and bariatric surgery, with an experienced and specialist MDT, and a track record of clinical and translational research and thesis supervision.
The Fellow will gain clinical experience within the SCH/SVUH COM multi-disciplinary team, an experienced team of health professionals, including dietitians, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical social worker, clinical nurse specialist, advanced nurse practitioner, endocrinologists and bariatric surgeons. The team have established pathways of care with the respiratory/sleep disorder clinic in SVUH, and recently developed a transitional care pathway with Child & Adolescent Obesity Services in CHI.
There are significant research opportunities within this Fellowship and the Fellow will be working with, and gaining clinical and research experience from, Prof Donal O’Shea, HSE Clinical Lead for Obesity and Principal Investigator of the Obesity Immunology Research Group in SVUH, UCD and NUI MaynoothandDr Jean O’Connell, Clinical Lead for SCH/SVUH COM.
