The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.

FINANCE OFFICER (ADMIN GRADE IV)

Permanent Part-Time (28 hours per week)

Location: Cork Services

A panel may be formed from this competition from which future full-time/part-time vacancies may be filled throughout our Services in Cork.

The Role:

Reporting to the Office Manager, the Finance Administrator will support Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions. The role also provides occasional reception cover during staff leave or peak periods, and supports the processing of staff travel claims.

  • Each candidate for the appointment must possess:
  • Have satisfactory experience as a Clerical Officer in the Brothers of Charity, HSE, TUSLA, other statutory health agencies, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004 OR
  • Have obtained a pass (Grade D) in at least five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education Leaving Certificate Examination, including Mathematics and English or Irish¹. Candidates should have obtained at least Grade C on higher level papers in three subjects in that examination OR
  • Have completed a relevant examination at a comparable standard in any equivalent examination in another jurisdiction. OR
  • Hold a comparable and relevant third level qualification of at least level 6 on the National Qualifications Framework maintained by Qualifications and Quality Ireland, (QQI)

    Candidates must achieve a pass in Ordinary or Higher-level papers. A pass in a foundation level

    paper is not acceptable.

    Candidates must have achieved these grades on the Leaving Certificate Established

    programme or the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. The Leaving Certificate Applied

    Programme does not fulfil the eligibility criteria AND

    Experience

  • Minimum of 1-year professional experience in Accounts Payable and / or Payroll processing.
  • Strong IT skills, specifically in MS Office (Excel, Word) and relevant finance systems.
  • Excellent accuracy, attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with accountability and sound judgement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to support process improvements
  • Appreciation of the needs and rights of people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Qualifications and Experience (Desirable)

    • Currently working toward, or have already achieved, a professional qualification in Accountancy, Payroll, or a related discipline.
    • Professional Qualification in Accountancy, Payroll or related discipline.
    • Experience with Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable systems (e.g., Transac, Kefron AP).
    • Experience working in a payroll environment.
    • Full clean ‘B’ Class Irish Driving Licence.

    2.Age

    The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.

    * Public Servants not affected by this legislation:

    Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age.

    Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70.

    3.Health

    Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

    4.Character:

    Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

    Salary Scale: €36,109 - €55,463 incl. 2 LSI’s pro-rata to a full-time post per annum (1/2/26 Consolidated Scales).
