Role Description:

The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland West Region provide a wide range of services to people with an intellectual disability and to their families in Galway and Roscommon. This position is within the Finance Services Team which provides a shared financial services centre covering the functions of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury functions, staff reimbursements, management accounts, financial accounts and budgets. The Finance Officer, as a member of the Finance Services team, is a role designed to:

  • Underpin the production of timely and accurate financial information monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
  • Support and guide the assigned staff to ensure that the required payments and reports are in accordance with Service policy.
  • Ensure that systems, processes, and procedures are operating to the standard expected.
  • Facilitate changing business needs and business expansion.
  • Continue the development and promotion of the devolved budget structure.
  • Provide “hands on” operational work, when required, for the core functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing and banking and the finances of Persons Supported.

There will be a wide variety of experience on offer to the successful candidate. The ideal candidate will be ambitious with the drive to get directly involved within the role.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • QQI Level 6 in Business Mgmt./ Payroll/Accountancy/Business Studies/ Commerce/Payroll or equivalent.
  • QQI Level 8 (Hons Degree) in Accounting/ Business or Qualified ACA/ ACCA/ CPA or CIMA.
  • Min 4 years professional experience in auditing, accounting, payroll, accounts payable or the finances of People Supported by an Intellectual Disability (or equivalent).
  • Strong IT skills, specifically in financial tools/software and MS office skills, particularly advanced level Excel.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet all required deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and willingness to assume significant responsibility, ownership and accountability.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability with logical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain finance concepts and terms to non-financial personnel.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting standards.
  • Training skills – ability to impart information and guide non-finance staff through query resolution and introduction to new systems.
  • Full clean ‘B’ class driving license and use of own car.

Desirable:

• Experience of working in healthcare/disability sector.

• Previous exposure to systems development.

• Knowledge of devolved budgeting concepts.

• Working knowledge of accounts software packages.

• Knowledge and Experience of Power BI.

Working Hours:

35 hours per week based on a 5 day duty roster. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am and 8pm to meet the requirements of the service.

Annual Leave:

30 days per annum.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Grade VI (Clerical) salary scale (01/08/2025) - € 57,325 to € 70,034 gross per annum.

The reference salary applying to the grade ranges from a minimum of €57,325 to a maximum of €65,363 gross basic per annum. After three years on the maximum point, a Long Service Increment applies bringing the annual salary to €67,695 gross basic per annum. After a further three years another Long Service Increment applies bring the annual salary to the maximum of €70,034 gross per annum.

Tenure:

This post is permanent, full-time and pensionable.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post.

Travel:

The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty.

Location/Base:

This post is based in Kilcornan House, Clarinbridge, Co. Galway, however the appointee will be required to travel to various service locations throughout the Region.
