Sweeney Oil are seeking a Financial Accountant at our head office location in Oranmore, Galway.

Role: Financial Accountant (9-12 Month Contract), Retail Industry

Reporting to: Head of Finance

Location: Oranmore, Galway

Primary Responsibility:

To manage all aspects of the finance function of several mixed retail outlets from a head office location. To exert control over the assigned responsibilities and to maintain all records in a timely, compliant and accurate manner. To assist senior management and store managers maintain the appropriate gross and net margins, cash controls and wage percentages.

Detailed Responsibilities, Accounts:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Finance role.
  • Have responsibility for accurate accounting records & provide weekly and monthly financial reports for the outlets.
  • Maintain a rigorous financial control & reporting environment.
  • Work with retail software partners to ensure accurate management information.
  • Work in conjunction with the General Manager & Group Financial Controller.
  • Monthly review of the balance sheet, ensuring reconciliations are performed and ensure that all balances are understood and justified.
  • Assist in Audit Preparation and Reviews.
  • Assist in Budget Preparation and Reviews.
  • Ensure all statutory/Revenue returns are processed and up to date.
  • Continual review & development of best practice financial accounting & control procedures to maximise efficiency
  • Overseeing of weekly payroll.
  • Assist with the AR/AP function where necessary.
  • Oversee & review the income audit function daily/weekly.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as required.
  • Management of stock price files for stores from head office package. Reconciliation of purchases on accounting and till systems.
  • Management of rebates and credits with suppliers in an efficient and accurate manner to ensure maximum credits are received and recorded.
  • Other reports as required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have three or more years work experience in an accounts function, preferably (but not essential) from the service, retail or hospitality industries.
  • Have an accounting qualification or be part-qualified with good experience.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Be able to work within a team adhere to deadlines.
  • Have a formal accounting qualification (Payroll or Accounting Technician)

Please note that remuneration will be commensurate with experience and we aim to have a 4-8 week handover period.
