Financial Controller


2rn distributes and transmits the programme services of the Irish Radio and Television services. National TV services Saorview and Saorsat and national, regional and local FM and LW radio services. 2rn also provides site services/facilities to mobile telephone and broadband operators, private communications companies and the emergency services. 2rn is a wholly owned subsidiary of RTÉ (Raidió Teilifís Éireann). RTÉ is Ireland's national public-service media organisation. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally. Arising from an upcoming retirement, 2rn now have the opportunity for a suitably qualified & experienced Financial Controller to join the company’s Senior Management Team. Reporting to the Executive Director, with a functional reporting line to RTÉ’s Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller has overall responsibilities for managing the company’s finances, including:

  • On a day-to-day basis managing the finances of 2rn, and the small finance team

  • Providing financial advice and commercial decision-making support to the 2rn management team

  • Developing annual company budgets (operating and capital) in collaboration with department heads and the Executive Director to comply with company and group business objectives

  • Overall responsibility for monthly Group and company reporting pack

  • Monitoring actual performance against budgets and control variances to ensure overall budget targets are being achieved

  • Preparation and presentation of Board reports including ad-hoc reporting as required

  • Monitoring and reporting on bank lending covenants

  • Supervising and reviewing the preparation of year-end statutory accounts for audit and filing and managing relationships with external auditors

  • Responsibility for Regulatory Accounting including consultation with the regulator and ongoing development of systems, processes and procedures to comply with changes in operations and accounting standards

  • Preparation of the Annual Regulatory pricing review submission to, and agreement with the regulator (ComReg)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualified accountant preferably with 10 years post qualification experience; including that at a senior level

  • Experience of meeting tight reporting deadlines

  • Experience of maintaining tight cost control

  • Knowledge of the broadcasting and telecommunications industries/would be an advantage

  • Desirable - Experience of operating in a regulated industry and interfacing with regulatory authorities


  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with track record of building relationships

  • Business and commercial acumen with ability to contribute to operational and strategic business decisions

  • Strong analytical and interpretative skills

  • Customer and stakeholder focused
