Salary Scale

€35,660 p.a. - €40,143 p.a.

New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of current experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.

Annual Leave

22 working days per annum.

Working Week

39 hours per week (exclusive of one hour lunch)

Probation

In accordance with S.I. No. 686/2022 - European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) Regulations 2022, the period of probation shall not exceed 12 months.

Membership of the ETB Superannuation Scheme and of the ETB’s Spouses and Children’s Scheme is automatic and compulsory.

Job Objectives

Overview of the Role

To provide caretaking, cleaning and support services as part of the ancillary team, as directed by your line manager in line with practices and procedures of DDLETB.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The general organisation, cleanliness and tidiness of the Training Centre and its environs. For example, this may include cleaning tasks in classrooms, workshops, corridors, toilets, canteen, floors, balconies, yards, stores, ground maintenance work, cable management, power-hosing, windows, doors, waste management and any other area identified.
  • Preparation of rooms/areas to include moving/laying out of furniture, machinery and equipment as requested. It may also include delivery, unboxing and layout of ICT equipment for installation by the IT dept and removal of packing appropriately. 
  • Routine maintenance including windows, doors, lighting, toilet facilities, drains, grass cutting, painting, high-level cleaning, chairs, desks, hanging pictures, printing, laminating and placing signage, etc.
  • Replenishing supplies in all areas such as toilets, classrooms, workshops, offices and delivery/franking of post
  • Support the efficient and economical operation of the heating, lighting, water and sewage systems.
  • Support the security of the Training Centre and Grounds by securing exits/entrances, windows, doors etc. at appropriate times and reporting non-compliances to the Assistant Manager.
  • Assisting generally in the efficient operation of the Centre to include Health & Safety and Fire Safety duties as required and reporting of issues, defects or unusual occurrences to Assistant Manager. This may include toilet checks, AED checks, H&S equipment, checking for blocked fire doors/fire equipment, etc.
  • Liaising with stores to ensure efficient delivery and distribution of goods within the centre including loading/unloading with forklift or pallet truck, racking of steel and timber, distribution of goods/supplies to and from appropriate points of storage.
  • Attend DDLETB training for staff as required.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the grade which may be assigned by management from time to time.

    • All duties must be carried out to comply with:
    • Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Acts, 1989 – 2018.
    • ETB’s Codes of Practice and Procedures.

    Skills Requirement

    Essential Qualifications and Skills

    • Experience and understanding of Health and Safety issues 
    • Good organisational, communication and time management skills
    • Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the training centre team.
    • Ability to act on own initiative, dealing with any unexpected problems that arise
    • Aptitude for basic DIY and maintenance tasks
    • Punctual, reliable and trustworthy
    • Confidentiality with regard to centre business
    • Forklift driving will be required – training will be provided if necessary
    • Basic IT skills
