Hours of Work
As per contract of employment (Full-Time: 35 hours per week)
The function of the job includes an ability to:
Maintain good standards of housekeeping within all areas of the designated FET Campus
Maintain good standards of hygiene within all areas of the designated FET Campus
Provide general assistance to all FET Provision and Support Services in specialised workshop areas and other work areas at the designated FET Campus
Provide general assistance to all staff with stock handling and control, when and where required
Provide adequate security cover as required with an emphasis on a safe and secure environment
The duties and responsibilities of the post are ever evolving as the exigencies of the post require. The below outlines some of the more immediate duties and responsibilities, but is not an exhaustive list.
Initially based in Raheen Campus, the General Assistant will work as a member of the FET Campus Ancillary Support team providing general assistance to all FET Provision and Support Services within the FET Campus.
Cleaning and Maintenance of all facilities within specialised workshop areas and other general areas
Assist with Plant and Equipment storage and control
Assist with the handling of goods inwards and outwards in the Stores, Canteen, specialised workshop and general areas
Cleaning, Housekeeping and Refuse Disposal within the Canteen area(s)
Liaise, when required, with staff and learning practitioners on course support duties including handling and preparation of class materials in advance of class delivery
Liaise with FET Campus Management on other duties, when and where required
Undertake Van and/or Forklift driving, when required
Undertake Security duties when necessary at gate, stores, reception etc.
Monitor heating and hot water boiler and adjust timings when necessary
Undertake such other duties as assigned from time-to-time
In conjunction with the employer, the candidate must be willing to undertake necessary training and development e.g. forklift driver training etc.
Policy and Legal FrameworkThe General Assistant will work within the framework of national legislation, procedures and Codes of Practice, in addition to Limerick and Clare ETB’s Strategy, Policies and Procedures.

Work Experience
Related experience of General Assistant type work in at least one of the following sectors: education and training; construction; engineering / mechanical; manufacturing; hotel and catering
Forklift driving experience
Must hold current RTITB Fork Lift licence

Communications / Interpersonal Skills
Good inter-personal and communication skills
Outgoing personality who enjoys dealing with people
Ability to deal with ETB learners and employers
Good organisational & administration skills
Calm, confident manner, mature and empathetic approach to dealing with learners
Good written and spoken communication skills
Circumstances / Special Requirements for this Job (e.g. travel; car owner; driving licence; unsocial hours etc.)
Access to transport and the ability to drive to meet demands of post
Willing to work after hours and/or weekend days
