General Maintenance Porter

The Role: (Please see attached job description)

• Provide support and assistance to the Estates Department with ongoing reactive maintenance, preventative maintenance, planned maintenance and implementing health and safety requirements at SETU Carlow Campus. 
• Liaise with Estates maintenance contractors and other relevant contractors with respect to reactive and planned maintenance to include, but not limited to, inspection of, buildings, mechanical, electrical, associated systems.
• Carry out routine maintenance checks in accordance with schedules provided by the Estates Department.
• Support operations and events across the Carlow Campus, as required.
• Checks, follow up and close out tasks to include but are not limited to:
• Building checks of roofs, walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, internal building fittings and subsequently carry out general operative repairs.
• Grounds checks include footpaths, roads, light standards, barriers, etc.
• Internal room checks to include seats, blinds, lights, radiators, toilets, ceilings, door closers/handles etc. Carry out general operative repairs.
• Legionella management - scheduled flushing of sentinel outlets on campus; and scheduled temperature monitoring of hot & cold water in all buildings.
• Lighting - Replacement of lamps in light fittings.
• Meters – Take readings at all gas, water and electrical meters on a weekly basis.​​​​​​​

The Person:

• Eligible to work in EU/EEA
• The ideal candidate should have 2 – 3 years' experience working in a large site-based building/college or campus as a caretaker or in caretaker/security role.
• Have experience working with people on a daily basis, with excellent communications skills.
• Can operate machinery for their duties.
• Knowledge of health and safety and manual handling, fire control an advantage.
• Be flexible in their approach to working on day and evening shifts.
• Live close to the SETU Carlow Campus.
• Basic statutory training for the role will require all candidates to have basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to assist in understanding safety and work instructions and communicating with customers on a day-to-day basis.
