General Operative
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Work is divided into specific areas. You must always respond to customer requests in a positive, polite and prompt manner, carrying out duties professionally and courteously.
Ensure all areas in are cleaned efficiently and in a timely manner to the required standards.
Use cleaning chemicals safely, in line with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines.
Adhere to and understand all H.A.C.C.P. perquisites.
Comply with the organisational and statutory regulations regarding safe working practices, hygiene cleanliness, fire safety, SOP’s, and COSHH.
Operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning agents only after proper training and as directed by your manager. Immediately report and label any faulty equipment, and do not use it.
Always use appropriate safety signage (e.g., wet floor signs) and verbally warn people when possible.
Remove wheelie bins and waste from kitchens and units as needed.
Maintain full knowledge of all areas you are responsible for cleaning.
Keep cleaning stores are kept clean, tidy and stocked and ensure all equipment is stored correctly and safely.
Deliver and collect hot food trolleys to the units as required.
Collect food order sheets from the units as required.
Deliver food items to units when needed.
Set up for teas and coffee service in the boardroom as required.
Carry out light food preparation and serving.
Drive the campus food delivery van as needed.
Follow the organisations Health and Safety Policy, reporting any hazards, dangers, or near misses to your manager.
Safely operate cleaning equipment (E.g. floor buffers and scrubber driers)
Comply with all security regulations for materials, equipment and buildings as laid down by the organisation.
Attending training courses and meeting as necessary to maintain high standards and perform your role effectively.
Adhere to all Campus policies and procedures.
Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, cleanliness, and appearance, and wear the designated organisation uniform.
Participation in any third party audits (e.g. ISO 9001:2015 or others) when required.
The above is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post, which may be assigned to him/her from time to time, and to contribute to the development of the post while in office.
Eligibility Criteria Qualifications and/ or Experience Applicants must by the closing date have the following:
At least one years’ experience in a similar role (desirable).
Leaving Certificate or equivalent (essential).
Have a good knowledge of the services provided by Oberstown Children Detention Campus.
Have ability to work within a team and an ability to motivate and encourage team members to achieve maximum performance.
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication.
Have a willingness to learn and aptitude to use all new technology and information systems and have a natural aptitude for the use of the equipment.
Must possess appropriate computer skills, e.g. proficiency in Word, Excel, e-mail etc.

Flexibility and initiative in prioritising cleaning tasks in response to operational changes (e.g. incidents, emergencies).
Recognition of when to escalate issues (e.g. security, H&S breaches) to management.
Ability to quickly assess and resolve minor issues such as spillages, contamination risks or equipment faults.
Team Working
The ability to work as part of a team and to establish a good working relationship with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
The ability to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team.
The capacity for management responsibility and initiative.
Drive and Commitment
Great attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
A commitment to maintaining high work standards.
Driving Licence
Successful candidates will be required to hold a current full clean Driving Licence – Category B, prior to commencement of employment.
Health
A candidate must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Age
Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 67 years of age.
Communication
Candidates must have a good command of the English language.
