Remuneration is in accordance with the salary scale approved by the Department of Health:

Current salary scale with effect from 1st August 2025: Grade Code 4197, starting at Point 1 €35,547 and rising annually in increments: €37,409; €38,528; €39,294; €39,958; €40,816; €41,340; €42,233; €43,150

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Professional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Remove household and clinical waste from wards, theatre, and other areas when required in accordance with collection schedules, health and safety regulations, and hospital policies.

• Assist with patient movement, repositioning, and other areas of support when required.

• Move beds, cots, wheelchairs, hospital equipment, and patients when required.

• Supply and remove linen to wards and other clinical and non-clinical areas in line with best practice and agreed procedure.

• Liaise with parents, patients, and fellow staff members in a professional and courteous manner.

• Rotate between all sections of the Portering Department when required.

• Attend all mandatory training.

• Commit to weekend, evening, and night shifts when required.

• Commit to Bank Holiday or unrostered overtime when required.

• Show a high degree of flexibility in carrying out daily duties and any requests made by Portering Management.

• Follow best practice as advised by hospital SOPs.

• The post holder will be expected to live CHI values and be child-centered, compassionate, progressive, and act with respect, excellence, and integrity.

Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications, and Experience

Essential Criteria:

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Experience working in a customer service or patient-centered environment for a period of at least 12 months.

• Basic computer literacy.

Desirable Criteria:

• Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.

• A good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, or similar IT systems.

• Leaving Certificate or similar national standard of education.

• At least 12 months’ experience working in a healthcare environment.
