Gym Attendant- Sports Centre
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the operational delivery of services in the IWA Sports Centre, including the gym, sports hall, and associated facilities. They will ensure a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all users, including Irish Wheelchair Association members, the general public, and visiting sports groups.
Liaising
The post holder will develop and maintain positive working relationships with:IWA members and Sports Centre membersOther facility users and visiting groupsIWA staff, volunteers, and coachesThey will work closely with the Sports Centre Manager and be an integral part of the IWA-Sport team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise gym and sports hall activities to ensure safety and adherence to rules.Assist with opening, closing, and general daily operations of the facility.Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of gym, sports hall, and ancillary areas.Support event set-up, equipment preparation, and storage.
Assessing fitness levels: Evaluating clients' current physical condition and capabilities to tailor exercise programs.
Creating personalised fitness programmess: Developing individual workout plans based on client goals and needs.
Leading group exercise classes: Instructing and motivating participants in various fitness classes
Demonstrating exercises: Showing proper form and technique for various exercises, including the use of gym equipment.
Providing Nutritional Advice: Offering guidance on healthy eating habits to complement exercise routines.
Maintaining Equipment: Ensuring gym equipment is in good working order and reporting any issues.
Facility upkeep and cleanliness – Ensuring the facility is clean and tidy at all times.
Providing First Aid: Administering basic first aid and CPR if necessary.
Record Keeping: Updating client records and tracking progress.
Provide a friendly, welcoming environment for all members and visitors.
Assist users with equipment setup and correct use.
Respond to enquiries in person, by phone, and via email.
Monitor use of facilities to ensure health and safety guidelines are followed.
Report maintenance issues and hazards promptly.
Complete routine safety and equipment checks.
Assist with bookings, registrations, and membership processes.
Maintain accurate records where required.
Support other IWA staff in delivering inclusive sports programmes.
Participate in staff meetings, training, and development opportunities.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant fitness, sports, or leisure qualification (e.g., Gym Instructor, Fitness Instruction, or equivalent).First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).Experience working in a sports, leisure, or gym environment is desirable.Experience supporting people with disabilities is an advantage.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Good organizational and time management skills.Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office, email systems, booking software).Commitment to providing inclusive and accessible services.
Availability
Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.Occasional support for special events and competitions.
Remuneration & Benefits
Salary: €13.50-€21.00 per hour DOE
