Salary: NCAD Grade VI - €57,897 - €70,733* per annum

Candidates should note that as per Department of Finance guidelines, entry will be at the first point of the salary scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with government pay policy. Candidates should note that different pay and conditions may apply if, immediately prior to appointment, the appointee is a serving civil or public servant.

Annual Leave: Annual Leave will be 27 working days per annum. This leave is exclusive of public holidays.

Hours of Attendance: Working hours will be 35 hours per week (net of rest breaks).

Location: This position is based at NCAD, 100 Thomas Street, Dublin

Role Purpose:

The Head Attendant is responsible for the effective management and coordination of Attendant Services across the College. The role ensures the safe, efficient, and professional operation of campus buildings, studios, galleries, workshops, and event spaces within a specialist art and design College environment.

The role involves supervising the Attendant staff, overseeing daily operational logistics, supports health and safety compliance, ensures fire regulations are adhered to by the attendants, and ensures high standards of service delivery to students, staff, and visitors.

The National College of Art and Design (NCAD) is entering an exciting and significant phase of development, with a number of major initiatives commencing from 2026 onwards including a new strategic plan and a campus development project. The Head Attendant will play a key role in delivering change management during this development phase and support NCAD in space utilisation and aiding in the management of space across the campus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

● Provide direct line management to Attendant staff, allocating workloads and setting performance expectations.

● Manage and coordinate the daily operational activities of the Attendant team.

● Develop and manage staff rosters, including evening and weekend cover where required.

● Responsible for the managing of all the entrances to different buildings of the College and security of the same during the opening hours of the College.

● Ensure timely opening and closing of campus facilities.

● Oversee room setups for teaching, meetings, exhibitions, and public events.

● Ensure that the reporting of maintenance requirements/issues follow procedures

● Ensure compliance with alarm and building security protocols.

● Support staff training in areas including manual handling, fire safety, and operational procedures.

● Conduct probation reviews and contribute to performance management processes.

● Support implementation of the College’s Safety Statement, conduct routine inspections of studios, public areas, and common spaces.

● Ensuring that any accident/incidents are reported correctly.

● Ensuring correct planning is place to manage crowd flow and operational readiness during high-attendance events.

● Promote a collaborative and professional team culture.

● Maintain records relating to staffing, maintenance, incidents, and operational planning.

● Contribute to risk assessments and operational reports for senior management.

● Support procurement processes for operational supplies and consumables.

● Positively contributing to the implementation of change.

● Demonstrates high levels of initiative, taking ownership for projects.

● Work with the facilities Manager and liaise with contractors and service providers as required, including the cleaning and security companies.

● Undertake any other such appropriate duties, which may be assigned from time to time by their Line Manager

Mandatory Criteria

● Minimum 5 years’ experience in facilities, operations, or building services.

● Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience.

● Knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation.

● Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

● Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends when needed.

● Proficient IT skills (MS Office, email, reporting tools).

Desirable Criteria

● Experience in an arts, higher education, or cultural institution.

● Formal training in Manual Handling, Fire Safety, or First Aid.

● Experience supporting exhibitions or public-facing events.
