Principal Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the effective supervision of telephonist staff under your remit to ensure the effective running of hospital services.
  • Responsible for ensuring the department is adequately resourced to provide a 24-hour, 7-day a week service, through effective rostering of staff in line.
  • Arranging appropriate cover in the event of sick leave, annual leave, maternity leave, etc.
  • Allocating duties to the reception staff to ensure that the service is provided in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Ensuring all staff assigned to the area are trained in all aspects of the job of reception/telephony.
  • Ensuring that all calls are answered, screened and forwarded as appropriate.
  • Ensuing that all persons arriving at the main reception desk are greeted on arrival and where required, directed to the appropriate person or area.
  • Ensuring that the operation of the switchboard and bleep system is appropriately maintained to ensure ensuring the smooth running of the reception area.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of telephonist staff in the Reception Department as required
