St. Michaels House is a large organisation providing residential, community, day and clinical services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities across multiple sites. We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Health & Safety Manager to join our Quality, Safety & Risk Team. We are looking for a professional who understands that safety is fundamentally about people, dignity, and quality of life and who wants to use their expertise to create environments where individuals with intellectual disabilities, those who support them, our staff and our volunteers can thrive. You will work at enterprise level, influencing strategy, assurance and culture, and will partner closely with the Estates Directorate, Clinical Governance, Safeguarding, and Service Management to ensure that health and safety is fully embedded in how care and support are delivered.
Essential Qualifications:
- Hold a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 8 (or higher) major academic award (e.g. Honours Degree or Higher Diploma) in Health and Safety, or other relevant area (that is, a qualification or cognate degree accredited by Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) for membership at Graduate or higher level).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Qualification or formal training in Risk Management, Incident Investigation, or Root Cause Analysis
- Training in Safeguarding, Positive Behaviour Support, or Restrictive Practices
Essential Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an Occupational Health and Safety Officer / Advisor role or A minimum of 1.5 no. years’ experience in an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor/Officer (or equivalent) or Assistant role, and a minimum of 1.5 no. years’ experience in healthcare in a clinical or support services role (i.e. a combined total of 3 no. years’ experience)
- Proven competence in report writing, including the preparation of detailed investigation, inspection and audit reports, with the ability to present findings, root-cause analysis and recommendations in a clear, structured and defensible manner.
- Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and management ability, for the proper discharge of the office.
- Due to the scale, geographical dispersion and the operational nature of St. Michael’s House services, many locations are not accessible by public transport within required timeframes. Access to independent transport is therefore essential to enable timely inspections, incident response and compliance with health and safety legislation.
Desirable Experience:
- Have experience of working in Disability Services, particularly regulated settings.
- Have experience managing health and safety issues across multiple sites
- Have experience presenting health and safety information to senior management, committees or Boards
SALARY SCALE: Successful candidates will be paid in line with the Aug‘25 HSE revised consolidated salary scale: Point 1 €60,013 to €78,015 after LSIs
