Health & Social Care Professions Disability Services Practice Education Project Officer
There is currently onepermanent fulltime Health & Social Care Professions (HSCP) Disability Services Practice Education Project Officer (Grade Code: 3149) vacancy (1 WTE - 35 hours) available in the Erinville Hospital, Cork.
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for HSPC Disability Services Practice Education Project Officer from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
Details of the Service:
This role has been developed with a specific focus on increasing practice placements in disability services in the HSE, Section 38s and Section 39s. The post holder will work with the regional HSCP team, including the Regional Director HSCP, HSCP Regional Integration Development Lead and the HSCP Regional Practice Education Coordinator.
Disability services require specific focus for workforce development. In the past few years there has been record levels of resourcing and service growth in Disability services. Despite this welcome growth the following priorities require increased capacity to address current unmet need and plan for future need:
- Access to services
- Recruitment and retention
- Models of care relevant to individual need
The above require scaled up service improvements, to meet the changing demographic and drive through reform needed to deliver a person-centred model with flexibility, choice and control for people with disabilities.
Disability services are currently delivered within a complex service delivery model with a significant number of external service providers who, together with the HSE, provide a wide range of life-long supports for individuals with diverse needs. Disability services are governed by multiple legislative and regulatory frameworks.
Around 90,000 persons with disabilities, across all six regions, avail of specialist community-based disability services funded and overseen by the Department of Children, Disability & Equality. The move to population-based service planning and delivery (as a core objective in Slaintécare) from a care group approach represents a significant change to the way services have been delivered in recent years.
The integration of Disability services with primary care, acute care, mental health and community services is key to the delivery of integrated services to people with disabilities.

As an integral member of the HSE South West Regional HSCP team, the HSCP Disability Services Practice Education Project Officer will support Disability Services across the HSE, Section 38s and Section 39s to further develop the practice education infrastructure. The post holder will work closely with the HSE National HSCP Office to contribute to and inform development of national initiatives to support practice education in disability settings, to test and implement new approaches, models and frameworks and to support development of the HSCP practice placement database. There will be a strong emphasis on co-creation and working in line with the principles underpinning development of HSCP Deliver and People’s Needs Defining Change, the Health Services Change Guide.
