Healthcare Assistant –Endoscopy Decontamination/Procedure Room

Full-time (39 hours per week) | Fixed Term

The successful candidate is required to be flexible in response to service needs and management requirements.

Candidate Criteria:

Qualifications

• Hold a Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification.

• Must hold a FETAC / QQI Level 5 qualification in Health Care Support

• Qualification in Endoscope decontamination (Desirable)

Experience

• At least 1 years’ experience working as a Healthcare Assistant

• Previous experience in a hospital setting is required

• Previous experience in decontamination of endoscopes would be advantageous

• Possess excellent organisational skills

• Flexibility in regard to working in other patient areas as determined by the service needs

• Follow all health and safety policies in accordance with hospital policy

•To practice within and support the Bon Secours Mission and Values, policies, procedures, guidelines and new initiatives as directed / introduced by the hospital.

The Purpose of This Role:

Bon Secours Hospital Limerick at Barringtons are currently recruiting a Healthcare Assistant to work in conjunction with our nursing team based in the Endoscopy Unit to include reprocessing and decontamination of all endoscopic equipment.

Role Responsibilities of the post include, and are not limited to:

• Perform decontamination of flexible endoscopes and associated equipment following established procedures.

• Operate and maintain automated endoscope reprocessors (AERs) and drying/storage cabinets.

• Ensure accurate recording and traceability of all decontamination processes.

• Support clinical staff by preparing equipment for procedures.

• Assist in maintaining stock levels of consumables and cleaning agents.

• Adhere to infection control and health & safety policies at all times.

• Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments.

• To adhere to the recommendations for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and risk assessments appropriate to the clinical area.
