Start Your Career as a Heavy Vehicle Machinery Mechanic

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Machinery Mechanic to join our Maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn, working alongside experienced mechanics while completing a nationally recognised apprenticeship leading to qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Machinery Mechanic.

As an apprentice, you will receive structured on-the-job training and attend the required off-the-job phases of the apprenticeship. You will develop the knowledge, practical skills and experience needed to inspect, service, maintain and repair a wide range of heavy vehicles and machinery.

What You'll Learn

Working under the guidance of experienced mechanics, you will:

• Assist with the inspection, servicing and maintenance of heavy vehicles and machinery.

• Learn to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults.

• Carry out preventative maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.

• Use modern diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and repair faults.

• Replace and repair mechanical components safely and efficiently.

• Learn to read and interpret technical manuals, workshop drawings and maintenance documentation.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records on the computerised maintenance management system (Pemac) and job documentation.

• Work closely with operators and the maintenance team to ensure equipment remains in safe working condition.

• Develop safe working practices and comply with all health, safety and environmental procedures.

• Keep the workshop clean, organised and well maintained.

• Participate fully in all apprenticeship training and development activities.

• Interested in mechanics, engineering or heavy vehicles.

• Practical, hands-on and eager to learn.

• Reliable, punctual and committed to completing their apprenticeship.

• Good problem solvers with strong attention to detail.

• Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Committed to working safely at all times.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants should meet the minimum educational requirements for entry to a SOLAS apprenticeship, including:

• Five passes in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent), including Mathematics, meeting the current apprenticeship entry requirements; or

• An approved equivalent qualification or alternative entry route recognised by SOLAS.

• Successfully pass the SOLAS TSS-8i-F4/V2 Colour Vision Test.

• Be eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland for the duration of the apprenticeship.
