ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Bridge House Hotel is seeking two part-time Hotel Night Porters. The Night Porter is responsible for ensuring the smooth, safe and efficient operation of the hotel throughout the night.

The role combines excellent guest service with responsibility for hotel security, night audit procedures, public area presentation, cleaning and preparation for the following day.

The Night Porter will be a visible and professional presence within the hotel overnight, ensuring guests receive a warm welcome and that their needs are dealt with promptly and professionally.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Service & Front Office

  • Welcome and assist guests arriving at the hotel during the night.
  • Complete late check-ins and early check-outs in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest queries and requests.
  • Provide information regarding hotel facilities, services and local amenities.
  • Assist guests with luggage when required.
  • Arrange taxis, wake-up calls and other guest requests as required.
  • Handle guest complaints or issues professionally and escalate to the Duty Manager where appropriate.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming presence at Reception throughout the night.
  • Ensure all guest interactions reflect the hotel's standards of service.

Night Audit & Administration

  • Complete the hotel's night audit procedures accurately and within the required timeframe.
  • Process room charges, payments and other transactions as required.
  • Balance cash and complete relevant financial checks.
  • Produce and distribute required night audit reports.
  • Ensure all guest and financial information is recorded accurately.
  • Complete the Night Porter checklist and relevant shift documentation.
  • Record any incidents, maintenance issues or unusual occurrences in the appropriate log.
  • Provide a detailed handover to the morning team.

Security & Health & Safety

  • Maintain the security of the hotel, guests, employees and property throughout the night.
  • Carry out regular security and fire walks throughout the hotel.
  • Check corridors, public areas, entrances, exits and other designated areas.
  • Ensure fire exits and escape routes remain clear.
  • Report any security, fire, health & safety or maintenance concerns immediately.
  • Follow the hotel's emergency procedures and assist with emergency situations when required.
  • Ensure external doors and other designated access points are secured in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or unauthorised persons.
  • Complete all required security and safety logs.

Cleaning & Hotel Presentation

  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout public areas during the night.
  • Clean and maintain the Reception, lobby, corridors, public toilets and other designated areas.
  • Carry out vacuuming, mopping, polishing and other cleaning duties as required.
  • Ensure public areas are clean, tidy and presentable for guests arriving the following morning.
  • Remove rubbish and maintain cleanliness of back-of-house areas as required.
  • Report maintenance defects and damaged equipment to the appropriate department.

Food & Beverage / Overnight Support

  • Provide limited overnight food and beverage service to residents where required.
  • Assist with bar service in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver room service orders where applicable.
  • Ensure bar and service areas are left clean and tidy.
  • Support the breakfast team by preparing designated areas and equipment for the morning service.
  • Assist with breakfast room or restaurant set-up where required.

Functions & Hotel Set-Up

  • Assist with the setting up and preparation of function, meeting and conference rooms.
  • Move tables, chairs and other equipment safely in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Ensure function areas are clean, tidy and ready for the following day's events.
  • Assist other departments with reasonable overnight operational requirements.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with the hotel's uniform and grooming standards.
  • Follow all hotel policies, procedures and operational standards.
  • Attend training and departmental meetings as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding guests, colleagues and hotel business.
  • Communicate effectively with the Duty Manager and other departments.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider hotel team.
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of colleagues and guests.
  • Report accidents, incidents, hazards and maintenance issues promptly.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role as requested by management.
