Position Description 

This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s Ardnacrusha hydropower generating station and on the Shannon Scheme. We have been generating electricity on the Shannon since 1929. The station team plays a pivotal role in ensuring Ardnacrusha’s safety, commercial and technical performance is optimised.

ESB Ardnacrusha Station has 3 Francis turbines and 1 Kaplan Type Turbine, 4 generators (G1 – G4: rated at 21MW, 22MW, 19MW and 24MW respectively) and responsibility for all the associated dams, weirs, gates, and civil structures associated with the Shannon hydroelectric scheme.

The Hydro Team Member – Electrical & Instrumentation will work as part of the Hydro team based in the station. They will be required to work across all functional areas including maintenance, operations, technical services, civil, supervision and contractor management. This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the landmark Ardnacrusha scheme, bringing and developing technical expertise as part of a strong engineering team.

The successful candidate will be required to work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties and will undergo training to maintain their competency. They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. The successful candidate will also be able to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels. Out-of-hours support for the stations will be a feature of the role as required.

Key Responsibilities

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Fault-finding and maintaining assets in accordance with the candidate's technical discipline
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the CMMS+
  • Supervising and directing contractors
  • Writing and implementing procedures and working instructions
  • Comply with corporate, statutory safety and environmental obligations
  • Carry out authorised roles under the safety rules.
  • Act as team leader in a ‘hands on’ capacity in the absence of the team leader
  • Environmental, Health & safety and quality management responsibilities

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • At least 3 years' experience in Electrical/Control & Instrumentation Maintenance
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of HV/MV/LV electrical systems and E&I systems
  • Good communication and IT skills, and ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Electrician with time-served Apprenticeship - FETAC level 6, Junior and Senior Trades or equivalent

Desirable

  • An understanding of mechanical, heavy rotational and pressure systems is desirable
  • Experience in liaising with relevant statutory bodies and contractors
  • Experience in project management and good planning skills

Location

This position will be based in Ardnacrusha Generation Station, Co. Clare.

Reporting To

The successful candidate will report to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, Ardnacrusha Generation Station.

Salary

€43,250 - €48,750 per year
