To provide independent advocacy support to children and adults living with a learning disability and/or mental ill health and their carers throughout Northern Ireland including Muckamore Abbey Hospital.
What you’ll be doing:
To respond to referrals for advocacy support and manage an individual caseload as allocated.
To build positive and meaningful relationships with Service Users/Carers and recognising Service Users/Carers as the Expert by Experience.
To assist the Service Users/Carers to explore their choices and options and support them in making an informed decision about potential courses of action without influence
To provide independent advocacy to service users who are making the transition from hospital to the community.
Essential Criteria
Previous experience working with children and adults with a learning disability or mental health needs
Access to transport that will enable you to carry out the duties of the post
Knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to children and adults living with a learning disability and/or mental ill health.
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of advocacy
Knowledge of relevant legislation including Mental Capacity as it applies to Northern Ireland
Desirable Criteria
3rd Level standard of education
Accredited advocacy qualification
