  • Role Introduction:

Applegreen is entering an exciting period of rapid expansion and is seeking a talented Architect / Interior Architect to join our Group Design team. Design is at the heart of who we are, and we’re looking for a highly creative individual who can help shape the next evolution of the Applegreen brand. As we redefine roadside hospitality, our ambition is to craft exceptional environments and memorable customer experiences that set new standards in the market.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence and elevate our destination design vision. The ideal candidate will bring strong creative flair, confidence in their craft, and a hands‑on approach to problem‑solving. They will be deeply engaged with emerging design trends, passionate about concept development, and eager to push boundaries through research, innovation, and thoughtful execution.

As part of the wider Applegreen Group Design & Construction team, a department with significant planned investment across the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland over the coming years, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering our strategic design ambitions. They will balance creative initiative with an ability to adapt concepts to diverse markets, all while staying aligned with Applegreen’s core values and long‑term vision.

We are looking for a confident, people‑focused designer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and integrates seamlessly into a collaborative culture. This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow with the organisation and expand their influence across the business.

The position reports directly to the Group Design Director and is based at our Group Headquarters in Park West, Dublin. Occasional international travel across the Applegreen estate will be required, so a full driver’s licence and the ability to travel internationally are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

As Applegreen expands, the responsibilities will evolve and change over time. The initial responsibilities will centre around the following areas:

  • Supports in the development & implementation of the design strategy & activities for both new sites, and enhancements/ refurbishments across both existing sites & new sites in Ireland, UK & US.
  • Adopt a hands – on approach to bringing creative concepts to life in our stores, supporting & working closely with the wider developments team to ensure value for money without compromising the overall design aesthetic required.
  • Constant evolution of design, bringing new trends and ability to delve into the detail design of fixturing
  • Manage any external relationships and liaise with contractors, suppliers, brand partners and design agencies.
  • Be part of the overall projects development teams when working on new builds, responsibility & accountability that the overall design is complete on time, and also follows the process right through to implementation to ensure the design is delivered as per specification
  • Preparation of interior drawing packs for new builds and refurbishment
  • Support the commercial teams on refurbishment & growth projects. Ability to take an initial brief, develop up a design, present with drawings & 3D visuals to internal clients
  • Adhere to and follow brand and best practice guidelines.
  • Collaborate and Liaise with other departments on interior and graphic design projects- Developments, Acquisitions, Trading, Marketing, Ops, Food, Corporate Finance, HR, Charity and work with sites on any artwork and signage requests.

The Candidate should have the following:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum degree level qualification in design or related field from reputable university or industry body. Other disciplines may be considered for candidates with the relevant experience and skills.

Experience & Skills

The successful candidate will:

  • Have natural creative flair with a focus on retail commercial design and knowledge of space planning with strong architectural acumen
  • Have proficient skills in AutoCAD, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Cinema4D or Sketchup and rendering software. Ability to use Revit is advantageous
  • Excellent powerpoint skills and experienced creative designer on documents and materials.
  • Be a self-starter who can work on own initiative and ensure successful delivery of design plans on time and budget.
  • Be a solution-orientated and positive individual who can work through constraints and obstacles to an optimal solution.
  • Possess well-honed influencing and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders across the different parts of the business.
  • Is resilient and calm under pressure or when juggling multiple priorities.
  • Has strong logic and decision-making skills.
  • Can constructively manage any conflicts regarding design through to successful resolution and implementation.
  • Experience in a retail & commercial environment essential, with working knowledge of customer experience & expectations.
  • Working knowledge of retail environment, customer experience and expectations etc also advantageous
  • Knowledge of relates areas an advantage; Project management, construction dependencies, engineering, lighting etc.
