The Role: 

 The Asset Operations function forms the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards as well as managing the majority of operational expenditure. The Asset Operations function has responsibility for operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning and standard operating procedures for Water and Wastewater operations both nationally and regionally, ensuring that value for money and customer service is delivered. 

The Workflow Functional Area is responsible for the management and monitoring of all outdoor work through the full work order lifecycle from planning to closure. This includes overseeing the initiation, dispatch and progression of work orders, processing of service requests, allocating adequate resources, identification of bundling opportunities, identification of work pre-requisites, creation of work orders to be progressed and dispatched to the field, the management of the logistics and stores to enable effective and efficient inventory control, Outage notification & processing and complaint resolution.

Reporting to the Inventory Manager, the Inventory Lead will have responsibility over inventory management for Uisce Éireann including management and logistics of a team of inventory personnel and store operatives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for inventory management and logistics for a network of stores and personnel 
  • Responsible for a centralised inventory management system that ensures all inventory items are tracked in one place and provides up to date information on stock levels, locations and other relevant details 
  • Responsible for framework compliance and supporting inventory framework strategy and roll out
  • Manage transition from the current distributed arrangements to a new single national UÉ model 
  • Work collaboratively with UÉ’s Supply Chain and Procurement functions to ensure timely and accurate delivery of inventory items. 
  • Coordinate and implement systems and controls in line with best practice in materials management e.g. ISO 9001, SharePoint, Oracle, Inventory, Maximo 
  • Manage regular audits and physical checks of inventory levels, as well as implementing strict procedures for inventory tracking and management. 
  • Establish and maintain a critical inventory register with robust processes for procuring priority emergency repair materials
  • Develop and maintain a sustainable materials management approach from procurement stage through to disposal 
  • Collaborate with management across UÉ to communicate, promote and share guidance and best practice on Inventory management systems, methodologies, benefits and governance frameworks 
  • Develop training and support capability for operational field teams to ensure they are familiar with inventory management systems, data recording and procedures. 
  • Implement appropriate inventory storage and handling practices to ensure that items remain in good condition and are readily accessible when needed 
  • Management and monitoring of inventory turnover and obsolescence ensuring stock levels are properly aligned with demand. 
  • Develop demand forecasting tools to analyse historical usage patterns 
  • Monitoring the ongoing inventory project set up phase with a particular focus on key project dates, and escalating issues as appropriate 
  • Develop strategic working relationships with key stakeholders 
  • Assist with the identification of locations and design of the National Stores network 
  • Ensure that area stores network support the business in delivering desired customer service outcomes driving health & safety, customer focus, delivery efficiency, on time and to the required quality 
  • Responsible for liaising with framework inventory partners to provide supplementary inventory capability 
  • Lead a culture of change and continuous improvement, working with the business to deliver optimum results for UÉ 
  • Assist with providing regular progress reports to the Asset Operations senior management team 
  • Monitor inventory management KPI’s and make appropriate recommendations to the business to ensure best practices are implemented and stakeholder expectations are achieved 
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting logistics and warehousing information to key stakeholders. 
  • Adhere to all HSQE plans, policies and procedures. 
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting KPIs for processes over which they support or have ownership 
  • Perform other duties as required from time to time 

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business
  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards. 
  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
  • Provide visible leadership for your team, coaching and developing them to achieve their full potential and deliver business objectives, promoting collaboration and highlighting the behaviours that are expected from everyone in the team.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant third level qualification e.g. Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable and or 5 years relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ public procurement experience desirable 
  • Demonstrated people management experience, with strong people, change management and conflict resolution skills
  • We work better together - experience providing coaching in the development of the technical skills and abilities in others
  • Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional standards and with proven ability to deliver results
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
  • Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements
  • We aim high -proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job 
  • Proficiency using Business Intelligence and data visualisation tools
  • High attention to detail and able to discuss technical and complex information through oral and written communication
  • Skilled proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Power BI desirable
  • Full, clean and valid Irish category B driving licence is minimum requirement. A clean driving licence is defined as meaning that the applicant has not been convicted of an offence under the Road Traffic Acts (other than an offence for which the penalty is the imposition of penalty points)
