Job Purpose

Manage a team that leads the sustainable growth of the Ireland's Ancient East region by devising and implementing destination development plans that harness opportunities to deliver improved levels of footfall, yield and business mix, informed by insight and best practice.

Working with key businesses in the region to improve their commercial sustainability and success as drivers for the tourism economy across the region.

Job DescriptionPrimary Objectives / Key ResponsibilitiesDestination Development
  • Identify key strategic development priorities for Ireland's Ancient East and develop actionable plans and deliverables at destination level to drive economic growth.
  • Input into the development and implementation of plans that adhere to the VICE model of sustainable tourism planning.
  • Complete needs analysis and implement activity to develop the destination and drive visitor appeal according to relevant market segments.
  • Support visitor experiences to seek innovative approaches to leverage opportunities, adapting to changing market conditions.
  • Work closely across the matrix organisation within Fáilte Ireland to ensure consistency of approach to maximise effectiveness in the implementation of plans and activities.
  • Actively seek market knowledge from internal and external sources to inform plans.
  • Support Head of Division in the delivery of team KPIs.
Industry and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders such as local authorities, public agencies, and tourism industry partners to collectively deliver agreed plans and objectives.
  • Develop and harness industry and destination networks to actively collaborate to gain buy-in and commitment on project priorities and areas of focus.
  • Identify themes and experiences and work with stakeholders and businesses (both individually and through clusters/networks) to develop and enhance their tourism offering.
Key Account Management
  • Manage a team of Key Account Managers with responsibility for working with tourism businesses to drive their commercial sustainability and success across the region.
  • Design and implement enterprise solutions to drive the commercial success of tourism businesses within the region.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of emerging trends in the Irish tourism market.
  • Bring a strong commercial focus to key business decisions and use strong commercial insights to inform tourism businesses' performance within the region.
Leading Others
  • Demonstrate high levels of emotional intelligence and self-awareness and promote a positive team culture.
  • Manage a team who are responsible for multiple projects and deadlines and navigate an effective path to deliver agreed KPIs.
  • Demonstrate impact of team and report performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Successfully manage a range of different projects and work activities at the same time.
  • Delegate work and tasks appropriately, ensuring oversight and structured follow up, empowering team to make decisions within their own role.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and develop practical suggestions for their implementation.

Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Ireland's Ancient East Team by supporting different work projects, as required, from time to time.

This role requires travel, with attendance at a number of national and regional locations/sites on an annual basis. The flexibility to travel domestically, and on occasion internationally, is an element of this role.

This role will require working unsocial hours including bank holidays.

Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
  • Experience in managing a high performing team.
  • Be an excellent communicator, with well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Have the ability to influence at all levels within an organisation.
  • Have a drive to embed and maintain high standards and best practice.

In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have/demonstrate in your application form the following:

  • Have a minimum of five years' experience in a role with relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate experience of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders, often with different objectives and motivations, to deliver results for all.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading a team that delivered large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders, demonstrating innovation and best practice and strong project management expertise.
  • Own means of transport / Full Driving Licence.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Experience in managing budgets.
Qualifications / Mandatory Training
  • A professional qualification (minimum Level 6 under the QQI framework) in a related discipline.
Desirable Criteria
  • Proven track record in destination development/tourism experience development projects.
  • Experience working with both public and private stakeholders and an understanding of their operating models.
  • Experience in people management/managing a team.
  • Masterplan development.
  • Interpretive planning and design.
  • A Project Management qualification.

Office Location and Blended Working

The successful candidate must regularly work from and attend the base office location of the role.

Please note:

  • Remote working from outside the State is not permitted other than in exceptional circumstances.
  • As this role is within the Irish public service, the post-holder must carry out a minimum of 80% of their working time within the State (Republic of Ireland).
  • Candidates who reside in Northern Ireland must be able to meet this requirement.
Selection Process

Shortlisting will be based on applications and the selection process may involve two competency-based interviews.

A panel of successful candidates may be formed following the selection process.

Candidates must be available to attend an in-person interview at the location and date specified by Fáilte Ireland.
