Job Description

Working hours are Monday - Thursday, 11:45 - 20:00 and Friday, 11:30 - 20:00.

As a Laboratory Assistant you will provide analytical testing facilities to help make food safe for consumption. You will prepare and analyse customer food samples keeping in mind efficiency, quality and accuracy standards as required by the company. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure Compliance to the 17025 standard at all times by adhering to the in house quality procedures provided
  • Become competent in the preparation of food samples for analysis.
  • Become competent in the laboratory work practices and requirements that facilitate analysis.
  • Become familiar with all relevant laboratory test methods and procedures i.e. SOP’s.
  • Ensure that all client samples are tested on time, and notify a Senior Technician / Laboratory Manager of any time delays.
  • Accurately log samples into the system in a timely manner.
  • Complete all documentation on time, accurately and legibly.
  • Check weights and temperatures in line with company procedures.
  • Adhere to all company standards in the area of safety, housekeeping and quality, notifying a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Ensure that the laboratory is stocked with pipettes, autoclave bags etc.
  • Clean laboratory equipment as required, including fridges, incubators water baths etc.
  • Ensure that all sanitiser bottles and beakers are filled and changed regularly and the correct control labels are attached to them.
  • Ensure that there are no reagents or media available in the laboratory that have past their expiry date.
  • Ensure that all documentation relating to customer samples is filed.
  • Take part in proficiency testing as instructed by a Senior Technician.
Qualifications
  • No Science qualification is required as full training will be given, but experience in a food environment would be an advantage.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Customer focused.
