Laboratory Scientist

There is currently one permanent whole-timevacancy available in Laboratory Scientist (PALs) Laboratory, St. Finbarr’s Hospital, Cork. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Medical Scientists, Senior from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Purpose of the Post:

• To perform chemical analysis or microbiological examination, as appropriate, of food, drugs, cosmetics, water or other sample types as determined by the Public Analyst.

Post Specific Requirments:

Candidates must have:·

• Strong technical experience in molecular biology and genetic analysis.
• Technical experience in DNA extraction and purification from food matrices.
• Proficiency in real-time PCR (qPCR) based detection, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Technical experience with quantitative PCR assays, and bioinformatics tools (e.g., BLAST, or NCBI databases).
• Implement and monitor contamination control measures, including the use of laboratory zoning.
• Design and validate PCR methods for specific GMO constructs and events.
