Leisure Attendant/Lifeguard
Key Purpose of the Post:
To undertake lifeguarding duties and a wide range of work as part of a team to provide the best possible service to users of the facilities and to respond effectively to needs and requirements as they arise. The postholder will assist with and ensure the safety of users and maintain a high standard of cleanliness at all times.

Ensuring adherence to all H&S policies and procedures and compliance with the normal operating procedures (NOP) and emergency action plans (EAP).
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Undertake lifeguarding duties and supervise swimming pool and wet area activities.
• Ensure customers adhere to pool rules and health and safety guidelines.
• Adhere to normal operating procedures and emergency action plans.
• Promote quality customer service at all times including information, guidance and instruction where appropriate.
• Ensure all cleaning duties are carried out to the required standard, including internal and external areas under the control of the facility, using the appropriate equipment and materials.
• Undertake deep cleaning duties of pool changing rooms and all wet and dry areas.
• Attend work in the appropriate uniform, neatly presented with identification and necessary equipment to carry out your duties.
• Assist in the preparation and operation of events and activities including the assembly and dismantling of equipment in a timely and safe manner.
• Patrol all areas of the centre to ensure all facilities are being used in the correct manner.
• Participate in the organisation and delivery of camps.
• Ensure all lost property is handled and recorded in line with FODC procedures.
• Maintain storage areas in a clean, tidy, safe and organised condition.
• Encourage a workplace culture that contributes to the aim of continuous improvement.
• Collect, segregate and dispose of all litter from the building in accordance with the Council’s Recycling Policy.
• Adhere to FODC Safeguarding Policies and procedures.
Training
• Participate in staff training and development ensuring facilitation of the post requirements and standards. Maintain Lifeguarding qualification.
• Facilitate staff shadowing and training.
• Undertake training to ensure service delivery is kept relevant and respond to industry trends and customer needs by obtaining qualifications reflective of this.
Coaching
• Undertake coaching for a variety of health, fitness, sports and wellbeing classes.
• Carry out supervision of the Fitness Suite as and when required.
• Undertake coaching of the swim programme as and when required.
Administration
• Complete all associated paperwork in relation to your daily tasks.
• Carry out pool testing and completion of associated paperwork.
Health and Safety
• Ensure the Health & Safety of customers, colleagues and yourself at all times.
• Report and record all Health and Safety incidents.
• Ensure H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling, and Risk Assessment Guidelines are adhered to.
• Ensure all equipment is used as per manufacturer’s guidelines, stored safely, and adheres to service requirements; report defects to Management.
• Check safety and maintenance of equipment and facilities and report any issues or defects appropriately.
• Record and report incidents, accidents and near misses.
• Carry out Health and Safety checks as required.
• Adhere to FODC Safeguarding Policies and procedures.
• Carry out safety tests on equipment and pool tests according to procedures. Assist with pool plant operations.
The duties listed above give an indication of the type of work to be undertaken; however, these may change in line with the changing priorities and demands placed on the department and Council.
General:
• Ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety at Work legislation in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety at Work policy and associated procedures and guidance, and be an advocate for high standards of Health and Safety performance.
• Comply with all Council Policies and Procedures including the Employee Code of Conduct and the Employee and Councillor Working Relationship Protocol.
• Promote the Council’s equal opportunities policies and avoid all forms of discrimination as both an employer and a service provider.
• Implement and adhere to all Financial and Procurement policies and procedures.
• Undertake duties of the post in a manner that enhances and promotes the positive image of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
• Be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation. The above list should not be seen as exhaustive, and the postholder will be expected to undertake other relevant duties as required.
Essential Criteria
• Current lifesaving qualification (minimum National Pool Lifeguard or equivalent). In the absence of this qualification, the successful candidate must obtain it within the first six months of appointment.
• Minimum of 6 months relevant experience working in a leisure environment.
• Ability to work on your own initiative and work effectively as part of a team.
• Excellent customer service skills; ability to deal and communicate effectively with members of the public.
• Demonstrate that you hold a minimum of one relevant coaching qualification – e.g. Fitness Instructing, Personal Training, Sport Coach (Soccer, Gymnastics, Netball, Basketball). Please outline your qualification in full including qualification title, awarding body and date attained. In the absence of this qualification, the successful candidate must obtain it within the first six months of appointment.
Desirable Criteria
• Minimum of 12 months previous relevant experience working in a leisure facility or related environment.
• Hold a valid First Aid Qualification.
