ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Leisure Club Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for all members, hotel guests and visitors using the Leisure Club facilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe supervision of the swimming pool and surrounding areas, ensuring that all health and safety procedures, pool rules and operational standards are consistently followed.

The Lifeguard will also provide a high standard of customer service and contribute positively to the overall member and guest experience at Bridge House Hotel.

Key Responsibilities

Pool & Guest Safety

• Maintain constant and effective supervision of the swimming pool and surrounding pool deck.
• Ensure the safety of members, hotel guests, children and visitors using the Leisure Club.
• Enforce all pool and Leisure Club safety rules and procedures.
• Identify and respond promptly to hazards, unsafe behaviour or emergencies.
• Maintain appropriate vigilance at all times while on lifeguard duty.
• Never leave the pool area unattended while responsible for pool supervision.
• Follow established emergency procedures and respond appropriately to accidents and incidents.
• Carry out rescues and administer first aid/CPR where appropriately required.
• Ensure appropriate emergency equipment is readily available and maintained.
• Complete accident, incident and pool safety records accurately and promptly.

Pool & Leisure Club Operations

• Carry out regular checks of the pool area, changing rooms and surrounding facilities.
• Monitor pool conditions and report any concerns regarding water quality, temperature, equipment or facilities to management.
• Follow all procedures relating to pool plant, water testing and chemical safety within the scope of the role and training provided.
• Ensure poolside equipment is stored correctly and safely.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe poolside environment.
• Report maintenance issues, defects or hazards immediately to the appropriate manager.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.

Customer Service

• Provide a friendly, professional and welcoming service to members and hotel guests.
• Assist members and guests with queries relating to the Leisure Club.
• Communicate Leisure Club rules and procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
• Deal appropriately with customer concerns and refer issues to management where necessary.
• Promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the Leisure Club.

Health & Safety

• Comply with all Bridge House Hotel health and safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain current lifeguard qualifications and any other training required for the role.
• Attend mandatory training and refresher courses.
• Report accidents, near misses, hazards and safety concerns immediately.
• Ensure appropriate procedures are followed when dealing with illness or injury.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding members, guests and colleagues.
• Comply with all relevant hotel policies, procedures and statutory requirements.

Person Specification

Essential

• Current and recognised Pool Lifeguard qualification.
• Current First Aid/CPR qualification or willingness to maintain the required certification.
• Strong awareness of pool and leisure facility safety.
• Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in an emergency.
• Excellent observation and concentration skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Professional and approachable manner.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to follow procedures and instructions accurately.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Desirable

• Previous experience working as a lifeguard in a hotel, leisure centre or swimming pool.
• Previous customer service experience.
• Experience working within a hotel or hospitality environment.
• Additional leisure, fitness, swimming or first aid qualifications.

Important Safety Requirement

The Lifeguard must remain focused and vigilant while undertaking pool supervision duties. The pool area must never be left unsupervised while the Lifeguard is responsible for pool safety.

Where a Lifeguard is unable to continue pool supervision for any reason, they must immediately notify the appropriate manager and ensure that suitable cover is arranged before leaving the pool area.
