Essential Qualifications and Skills
Minimum
Candidates must:
• have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the role to a high standard;
• be capable and competent of fulfilling the role to a high standard;
• have obtained at least Grade O6 (formerly D3) in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination (higher, ordinary, applied or vocational programmes) or equivalent or have passed an examination at the appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be assessed as being of a comparable to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent or higher or have appropriate relevant experience which encompasses equivalent skills and expertise;

Overview of the Role
The library assistant will provide an excellent customer service to all users of the library and play an active part of the library team.
Duties
The appointee may be assigned to any of a very wide range of areas or activities carried out in the Library.
The duties may be of a clerical nature such as filing, shelving, photocopying, circulation, enquiries, the preparation and input of material on computers. The appointee would be expected to make decisions within limits and clearly defined guidelines. The job may involve processing of data and other types of information.
The job will involve regular contacts with students, staff, the public and organisations and individuals at all levels where discretion, tact, courtesy and judgement would have to be constantly exercised. The jobholder would be expected to exercise a good degree of initiative and be capable of working under a reasonable level of supervision.
All jobs in the Library demand a good knowledge and skill in the use of Information and Communication Technologies and appointees will be expected to use new techniques and technologies as they arise. The University will provide the necessary training as appropriate.
Following appointment, the appointee will be assigned to a particular location and post – Universities may operate a number of different locations in addition to the main campus. On assignment of the post, the University will provide a detailed list of duties and responsibilities applicable to the post.
Provide an excellent library service to all library users in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.
Desk duties as determined by the desk rota that will encompass evening and weekend duties and cover for Wellpark library when required.
Position holder can be assigned to either the Dublin Rd campus or Wellpark campus at any time depending on the needs of the library.
Flexibility to provide cover for absences when required.
Report to the Deputy Librarian Bibliographic and Systems Librarian.
Implement library rules and regulations to facilitate the appropriate and efficient use of library resources by library users.
To participate in library training and continuing professional development.
Any other duties as may be assigned by the Librarian.
Salary
Salary scale (€31,119 – €48,425)
Candidates external to the sector may be appointed up to the 3rd Point (€33,299) of the Salary Scale in accordance with University Policy
Hours of Work
35 hours per week
