Library Assistant
The Role

We are seeking to recruit a full-time Library Assistant on a specified purpose contract basis. This post is based in the General Collections & Finance (GC&F) section. The successful candidate will undertake a variety of duties in support of the section, including managing book and journal acquisitions, and will assist in the day-to-day services of the section and a variety of projects in the Library.
Principal DutiesAdministrative and other duties: This will include:
To process orders for print and eBooks through to making them available for use in a timely manner.
To manage the day-to-day processing of all functions related to print journals and government publications.
To contribute to the effective use of the Library Management System and other systems and applications.
To monitor departmental book budgets and provide information on same.
To coordinate and promote new publications by Maynooth University and St Patrick’s Pontifical University staff, and new acquisitions.
To respond to queries from academic staff, students and library colleagues (phone, email, face-to-face, etc.) in a timely manner.
To maintain and monitor statistics using LibInsights, the Library Management System’s analytics functionality, and other relevant systems.
To participate in a variety of library activities and internal committees.
To undertake project work when required.
Any other duties assigned by the Librarian or his nominee.

Excellent IT skills including MS Office suite and Library Services Platforms or similar. (ICT experience)
Previous experience in a library.
Experience using Alma.
Tenure This is a full-time, temporary post for a specified purpose, anticipated to be 13 months duration.
Salary Library Assistant (2025): €30,263 – €49,035 p.a. (16 points) Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
Hours of Work A 35-hour working week is in operation in respect of full-time positions (pro-rated for part-time positions). This can be reviewed or adjusted from time to time through national agreements.
Location The place of work is the campus of Maynooth University, Maynooth, Co. Kildare.
