Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine 18.5 hrs at Bantry General Hospital (11.5 hrs) & Marymount Hospice Cork (7 Hrs).

Required immediately for inital 6 months.

Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council of Ireland is required.

Public Only Consultant Contract.

Marymount University Hospital and Hospice provides two services, specialist palliative care (SPC) and service for older persons. There are 44 specialist hospice inpatient beds, a consultant-led community service (including input into mental health units, community hospitals and nursing homes), an outpatient department, and medical consultant input into all

acute public hospitals in the county, namely Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, South- Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Mallow General Hospital and Bantry General Hospital.

The community service is divided geographically into 4 community teams – North Cork team, South Lee team, North Lee team and West Cork team. This post is in respect to West Cork SPC services. The post holder will be the lead clinician overseeing the West Cork Community SPC team and provide medical input into Bantry General Hospital (BGH).

The existing service provides palliative care consultations to; patients in their own home, in-patients in BGH, and out-patients at the out-patient department attached to BGH. Consultations are primarily provided for symptom control, psychological support, assistance with future care and discharge planning, management of ethical dilemmas and end of life care. SPC services are provided between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Weekend cover is also provided by the consultant and community CNS team.
