Maintenance Operative

We are now hiring for a part time Maintenance Operative to provide Maintenance and General Operative support to our nursing home Beech Park Nursing Home, Dunmurry East, Kildare R51 PC58
The Maintenance / General Operative will support in all aspects of facilities management within the home. They will also have responsibility for ensuring that the upkeep of all areas of the home and grounds are maintained to a very high standard.
This is a part time role, up to 24 hours weekly with working days on Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8hrs daily, however the candidate needs to be flexible to attend on call and emergency matters also.
The Maintenance / General Operative will have relevant experience working “hands on” within the facilities sector.
The role requires the holder to be continuously vigilant towards the dignity, comfort and safety of residents in the nursing home.
You are also required to continuously adhere to all hygiene, health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out day-to-day general maintenance and repairs across the nursing home
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment, fixtures, and fittings
- Ensure heating, lighting, and plumbing systems are fully operational
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and residents
- Undertake painting, decorating, carpentry, and basic plumbing tasks
- Carry out any basic electrical work in accordance with your daily schedule and report any incidents to your manager
- Assist with external maintenance such as garden areas, paths, and signage
- Maintain records of work carried out and materials used
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and company policies
- Support with emergency situations (e.g. power failures, leaks)
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers as needed
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a general maintenance or handyman role
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Understanding of health & safety practices
- A friendly and respectful attitude towards older people and team members
- Flexibility to respond to urgent issues when required
Desirable:
- Trade certification or vocational training (e.g. plumbing, electrical, etc.)
- Previous experience in a healthcare or care home environment
