Position Summary

Directs the activities of a research group in the research and/or development of technology relevant to products, projects and programs. Develops strategies to ensure effective achievement of scientific objectives. Monitors and evaluates completion of tasks and projects. Oversees interdepartmental activities and research efforts. 

What you will do

  • Drives functional excellence initiatives, delivers high quality functional deliverables, and ensures technical excellence for product or technical development.
  • Drives technical projects of major magnitude and scope.
  • Provides significant guidance and approval regarding technical strategies and approaches.
  • Ensures continued intellectual property development.
  • Provides guidance and training to staff, assists subordinates in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high quality staff.
  • Develops and monitors department budgets.
  • Determines appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources.
  • Coordinates sessions with the project managers/core team leaders to look for opportunities for staff to learn about new initiatives or volunteer on new projects.
  • Drives the development of department tools and methodologies.
  • Establishes cross-functional team relationships.
  • Provides an overview of the function and role of his/her group, technical skill sets, to other groups and/or divisions.
  • Works cross-functionally in identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Drives and evaluates project and department progress, technical development plans, and results.
  • Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement that supports Quality Policy, Quality System and the appropriate regulations for the area they support. Ensure all employees are trained to do their work and their training is documented
  • Tactical manager of multiple Process Development projects or core technologies. Devotes a portion of time to managerial, leadership, and staff development responsibilities. 
  • Manages execution of the functional deliverables associated with the PDP/TDP, Project Management, and Quality Systems.
  • Serves as a technical resource and provides on-going feedback and coaching to direct reports and PD project team

What you will need

  • B.S. degree in engineering or applicable technical field (mechanical or biomedical preferred) (M.S. or/and Ph.D. in Engineering or related field preferred)
  • 8+ years of medical device design & development experience.
  • 3+ years of people management experience preferred, or some experience leading teams/projects
