Purpose of the role

The post holder will have responsibility to coordinate and manage departmental multidisciplinary meetings/tumour board meetings (MDM/TBM), including Mortality &Morbidity (M&M) meetings - to ensure that data/application controls are in place to ensure that systems/applications/databases operate smoothly and that collected clinical data is accurate, current and comprehensive.

Detailed description:

The post holder will be a core member of the National Children’s Cancer Service (NCCS) of the Department of Haematology/Oncology at CHI Crumlin.They will help to manage the National Cancer Information System (NCIS) project office at CHI Crumlin, which is an element of the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) Systemic Therapy Programme (STP).

The NCCP is responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of cancer services in 26 hospitals in Ireland that provide cancer care. The NCCP is part of the Acute Hospitals Division of the HSE. The NCCP was established in 2007. The purpose of the NCCP is to implement the recommendations of the National Cancer Strategies, the most recent of which was published in 2017. The NCCP is responsible for the planning, organisation and support of publicly funded cancer services in Ireland. The NCCP works with health service providers to prevent and treat cancer, and increase survival and quality of life for those who develop cancer, by converting the knowledge gained through research, surveillance and outcome evaluation into strategies and actions.

One of projects for the Systemic Therapy Programme is the development of a National Cancer Information System (NCIS). NCIS will deliver an electronic system for the prescribing, scheduling and administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy and will facilitate a single view of the patient’s systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) record. The NCIS MDM (TBM) module is part of the national electronic system (NCIS), which will potentially support the hospital clinical MDM (TBM) function. It may provide a comprehensive system for the organisation and recording of decisions of multi-disciplinary team meetings across all cancer types. MDMs (TBMs) are the cornerstone for patients with a cancer diagnosis, allowing interdisciplinary decision making with regard to staging and treatment options for patients. The NCIS role, relative to MDM/TBM module for children/adolescents, remains to be clarified

The post holders will be a member of the CHI CRUMLIN NCIS local implementation team and work closely with the national NCIS office at the NCCP.

The post holder will be a key member of the NCCS MDM (TBM and Neuro- oncology meeting) Team. The priority task will be to manage the current NCCS MDM (TBM and Neuro-oncology) meetings and to help develop and manage the planned Mortality and Morbidity meetings of the NCCS. In addition, the role will be to help with the transition to an electronic format for all MDM within the new electronic health record as planned for the New Children’s Hospital (EPIC). There is potential to collaborate with the existing adolescent/young adult MDM coordinator. The role will also involve the development of training and education, specifically in supporting NCIS/EPIC use for all MDM.

The MDM Manager will work as part of a dynamic team to coordinate and deliver optimal paediatric cancer care.

Essential Criteria

  • BSc or equivalent qualification in healthcare, informatics, data management
  • Have a Clinical Healthcare Background
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Experience of working in a demanding & challenging environment
