Mechanical Project Engineer

We’re currently looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team who play a crucial role in our journey towards being the world leader in a global industry racing towards sustainable food packaging solution. In this position, you will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering support for the site, both on new projects and for the existing plant. 
You will report to Mechanical, Design and Process Manager and be part of the local engineering team. 

What you’ll be doing
  • Key responsibilities will be wide ranging and will include the following:
  • Prepare project plans and budget for assigned engineering projects
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to determine the scope of projects and advise on engineering solutions
  • Write technical specifications and evaluate quotations/tender documents
  • Contribute to Project and Capital Expenditure proposals, providing appropriate information to support fabrication and demonstrate payback
  • Co-ordinate installation and commissioning activities
  • Undertake technical fault finding and develop or advise upon relevant solutions
  • Innovate, develop and improve engineering practices to ensure equipment performance is effective
  • Facilitate training on new equipment as required and provide technical support to maintenance and production
  • Operate within the requirements of Company ISO standards, promoting Quality, Environment and Health and Safety in all aspects of your role
  • Work in co-ordination with technical workshop on relevant aspects of tasks
  • Undertake data analysis
  • Contribute to and drive continuous improvement projects.
  • Other duties as required
What you’ll bring to the role
  • Ideally educated to degree level in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or similar. Time-served candidates with a HND or HNC qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering, combined with solid engineering/manufacturing experience will also be considered
  • Experience with mechanical design fundamentals
  • A good working knowledge of industrial mechanical components, such as motors, pumps, pneumatics, and conveyors
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Strong experience of project work requiring specialist mechanical engineering knowledge and displaying financial acumen
  • Computer literacy & fully competent in Microsoft Office
  • Whilst not essential it would be advantageous to your application if you could also bring:-
  • Previous mechanical experience gained within a high-volume manufacturing plant
  • Previous experience of fault-finding and engineering out problems using analytical techniques such as FMEA, Six Sigma and ‘Lean’; and
