Medical Laboratory Assistant - Blood Transfusion
The blood transfusion laboratory plays a pivotal role for a significant cohort of patients requiring urgent and emergency care in the acute hospital setting providing grouping and compatibility testing of blood and blood products for surgery, medical and emergency requests. As well as the development of the Mater Trauna Centre, the Mater is home to an number of specialties; the national heart and lung transplant program, specialist centre for spinal surgery and cardiothoracic surgery (including ECLS/ECMO), National Isolation unit, specialist centre for haematology/oncology as well as serving a large population in Dublin’s North inner city. As a major teaching hospital the blood transfusion laboratory and Haemovigilance work closely with the emergency department and critical care to provide in-situ simulation for Code Red (major haemorrhage) events as part of a multidisciplinary team training.
In co-operation with the Chief Medical Scientist, other senior staff and the Haemovigilance Officers, to support the Blood Transfusion and Haemovigilance Departments in maintaining Haemovigilance and Traceability functions. To perform clerical duties to support the activities and quality management system of the department as requested by the Chief Medical Scientist and other senior scientific and Haemovigilance staff.
