Medical Scientist, Chief, University Hospital

The overall purpose of this post is to:

· Provide strategic, clinical and scientific leadership, which results in the delivery of an accredited, effective, efficient, quality assured and patient centred Microbiology service.

· Maintain administrative responsibility for the delivery of services in the Microbiology laboratory in conjunction with the existing Chief Medical Scientist

· Develop a shared sense of commitment and participation among all staff in the planning and development of the service.

· Keep the Laboratory Manager and Microbiology team appraised of any significant development within his/her area of responsibility and perform such additional duties as may be agreed from time to time.

The Chief Medical Scientist (Microbiology) is a key member of the Laboratory Medicine management team and together with the Clinical Director will ensure that laboratory services are provided to support the clinical needs of the patients, in a manner that is consistent with the mission, values and strategic plan of the Hospital.
