Medical Scientist

There is currently 1 Permanent vacancy available in St Finbarr’s Hospital, Public Analyst Laboratory, Douglas Road, Cork City. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Medical Scientists, Senior from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Purpose of the Post:

• To perform chemical analysis of food, cosmetics, water or other sample types as determined by the Public Analyst.

The post holder will:

• The post holder will report to the Executive Analytical Chemist / Deputy Public Analyst / Public Analyst.
• The post holder will work as part of the team or independently.

Post Specific Requirments:

• Strong technical experience in molecular biology and genetic analysis.
• Technical experience in DNA extraction and purification from food matrices.
• Proficiency in real-time PCR (qPCR) based detection, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Technical experience with quantitative PCR assays, and bioinformatics tools (e.g., BLAST, or NCBI databases).
• Implement and monitor contamination control measures, including the use of laboratory zoning.
• Design and validate PCR methods for specific GMO constructs and events.
