Medical Scientist

Permanent, Full-time, 35hrs/w (immediate start)

The National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh (NOHC) has 37 Orthopaedic Surgeons and is Ireland’s largest dedicated Orthopaedic centre, the national referral centre for post prosthetic joint infections, Ireland’s primary referral centre for bone and soft tissue tumours, and the dedicated surgical centre for the National Sarcoma Service. NOHC also provides orthopaedic oncology, rehabilitation, rheumatology and paediatric services, and sports and exercise medicine. Home to the National Bone Bank, the Hospital is affiliated with RCSI, UCD and DCU as a teaching centre. Moreover, we undertake exciting research in collaboration with academic partners, peers, scientists, engineers and industry.

The Microbiology Department at NOHC processes approximately 30,000 samples per annum and is accredited to ISO 15189:2022. The Microbiology Department also provides Pathology services to an external private hospital, as well as, the National and Regional Bone Banks and is licensed as a Tissue Establishment (2004/23/EC) by the Health Products Regulatory Authority.

The Microbiology Department is well equipped with technology/instrumentation; Winpath LIS, Vitek 2, BacT/ALERT, MaldiTOF and GeneXpert.

Applicants should:

• Hold qualifications for the post, as stipulated by the Health Service Executive. Applications will be considered from Medical Scientists qualifying from approved courses in 2026.

• Supply evidence of CORU Registration with the application.

• Be a dynamic Medical Scientist with an in-depth knowledge of and experience in Microbiology.
