Purpose of the Post

The Specialist Medical Scientist Blood Transfusion (Blood Transfusion Testing & Specialist Techniques) will, in co-operation with the Chief Medical Scientist and department consultants, be responsible for managing the development of testing methods in Blood Transfusion in the HSE Mid-West.

The post holder will act as deputy to Chief Medical Scientist and ensure that Chief Medical Scientist duties are carried out in their absence. The post holder will periodically review testing performed in the Blood Transfusion laboratory in the HSE Mid-West and assess if the best practice and most efficient options are in use. The post holder will ensure that research conducted in the Blood Transfusion laboratory (BSc, MSc, PhD &/or other) aligns with the priorities and objectives of the HSE Mid-West and serves the best interests of the patients within the region.
