Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd are current;y looking for one candidate to enrol in our apprenticeship program. This is a full time position and is based in New Ross Co. Wexfrod.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd is a leading engineering company who specialise in the design and manufacturing and repairs of livestock bodies, drag trailers and all commercial bodies. We are a small company with ten staff, working together.
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd we offer a wide range of training programmes, working on different machinery, vehicles and plants. The apprenticeship consists of four on the job phases with Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd and three off-the job training phases in accordance with Solas scheduling system.
WHAT IS METAL FABRICATION
The skills are wide and varied, skills such as measuring, marking out, cutting and welding materials. Learning how to use, care and safety operate machinery and equipment ie: Press Brake, Guillotine, Drills, Cutting etc... Welding mild steel, Aluminium , Stainless Steel, Making a livestock body from start to finish, repairing a trailer, repairing agriculture machinery and the odd unusual item.
All metal fabrication will be trained in the following, working with a variety of specialised tools: Lather, Milling Machine, Grinders etc.. Assembling new machinery, dismantling repairs/make & fitting of new parts, report writing of completed work.
PAY
We pay all our apprentices the recommended wage set by the ETB. Review it after 3 months (A well adjusted candidate will be offered above the recommended wage.) A training allowance paid by the local ETB while the apprentices attending the off-the job training.
REQUIREMENT
Junior Certificate must be completed
Must be 16 years old or older
Good communciation skills
Ability to work as part of a team to enrol in our apprenticeship program.

Profile of Craft
The Metal Fabricator’s job includes the reading of drawings, working with materials such as low carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel and aluminium. The fabricator is involved in such industries as constructional steel, pressure vessel, tank and boiler manufacture, ship building and ship repair also general engineering. The skills required are wide and varied. They include skills such as measuring, marking out, cutting and welding materials using different processes and assembly techniques. The Metal Fabricator will spend some time outdoors and may be required to work on heights. At the end of the apprenticeship, the craftsperson will be able to demonstrate competence in the following skills:
Core Skills
Use, care and safety on the following machines and equipment:
• Guillotine

• Welding
Operations involve mechanical and thermal cutting, marking, drilling,notching, bending, rolling, forming and welding using various materials
Pattern development
Parallel line, radial line and triangulation methods
Specialist Skills
• Oxy-fuel gas cutting and plasma cutting
• Welding processes using: Oxy-fuel; MMA; MIG/MAG; TIG/TAG
• Rolling, bending and forming various materials
Generic Skills
Workshop practice including:
• Safe use and maintenance of tools and equipment
• Marking out
• Drilling
• Tapping
• Riveting
Technical drawing:
• Interpretation of first and third angle projections
• Isometric, oblique and free hand sketching
